If you're looking for authentic southern food ("comfort" food) in the North West, this place can hardly be beat. We started with hush puppies which were excellent. For our main courses we had, in order of deliciousness, fried chicken, macaroni, mashed potatoes, cornbread, and collard greens. I'd go back for the first 3 items for sure. Skip the collard greens.... More

Great service and great food! Came here with a group of 6 for brunch! Chicken and waffles is a must try! 3 big juicy chicken fillets comes with your waffle. Waiter knew to give you an extra side plate to put your chicken on while you ate the first piece! I have hear their fried chicken during dinner service is... More

I have been going to the screen door for a number of years. Was so happy, my husband and I with the food these last two years. But now the food is terrible, collard greens are dirty the juice there sitting in looks dirty. Catfish taste like it was battered in dirt, macaroni is dry and pastey. The food has... More

WOW, we heard this place was good for down home country cooking. We arrived at 5:15 and waited in line until doors opened at 5:30. Somebody else knew something as most restaurants would love to have a line at door when opened for business. Our table of 4 was promptly seated by Hostess with printed menus and daily specials, water... More

If I could give a 6 rating I would. After I came across the reviews and menu for Screen Door I modified my Pacific Northwest trip so I could fly out of Portland. My friend said it best, your going to the Pacific Northwest for Southern food? Yes, I did and it was awesome. I chose what I wanted while... More

If you find yourself in East Portland for any reason. . .make a point of enjoying a wonderful meal at the Screen Door Cafe. They are widely known for their Fried Chicken. . .and NOW I know why. Buttermilk battered and deep fried to perfection, a slight bit of spicy heat from the batter just enhances the enjoyment that much... More

I love PDX - the people, the unique neighborhoods, and of course the food. In fact, Portland is my favorite biz destination on the west coast. I discovered Screen Door many years ago. It is my go to whenever in town for biz or a vacation. I had a late biz meeting today and had to stay overnight because of... More

My family and I had a wonderful meal at this restaurant last week! We were in town for one night and the reviews on TripAdvisor were positive so we decided to give it a try. We arrived about 15 minutes before it opened and had to wait in line to get in but it was well worth it. We split... More

First off, Screen Door is located on Burnside in a funky older neighborhood in east Portland, this appears NOT to be a problem as legions have been here and continue the journey! Doors open at 5:30 PM and the restaurant fills up almost instantly! When we arrived around 6:15 There were about 25 people waiting for tables. Give your name... More

The chicken dinner is as good as it gets... as long as you don't mind standing in line for a long time. A tad on the pricey side, and noisy inside, but still pretty good.
