Amazing food, long lines, spotty service

The food is great but be prepared to wait for it. I recommend going late rather than early. Everyone seems to think going early will help and it means everyone waits early. We have been in the very first seating and waited over an hour to get our food. It's extremely loud inside and at dinner it's... read more

After 10 years living in Portland I finally made a visit to Screen Door. My friend and I had a long wait in the crowded entryway and then were seated at a very tight table. I enjoyed my meal - but my rare ribeye was medium. I was so hungry I didn't raise an issue. The drinks were excellent, service... More

When we asked the front desk for their local favorite place to eat...."Screen Door of course"! Worth the 30 minute wait on a Saturday nite. Small, cozy ol house converted into an amazing culinary delight of southern cuisine. Portions are huge, fit for 2 persons. I had the fried chicken with amazing mashed potatoes and collard greens. Shared it with... More

It's worth the very long wait. Showed up an hour before opening and was the 2nd in line. Shortly after I arrived the line was around the block. Let me say, it's worth the wait if you love breakfast. The best chicken and waffles I've ever had, but also the most expensive at $15. 3 large pieces of breaded chicken... More

Well, we finally took the plunge. For the last three years we have tried multiple times to go to brunch at The Screen Door, but we were always discouraged by the lines out the door and down the block. We have had some great and trusted friends recommend this restaurant, but we have been impatient. Finally, had the patience to... More

This is my 2nd visit here and it is still very good, some places the food is different on other visits but not here. The fried chicken is still one of the best in town, nice little spice to it, good cole slaw and mashed potatoes. Hush puppies was good and we tried the pork belly appetizer special which was... This was recommended to us by a friend so we stopped by for dinner. When we visited we came for dinner and the weather was amazing so we got to sit outside on the "patio" for our meal. Service was awesome - didn't have to wait to order and had a chance to creep on other people's tables to get... More

While in PO we ate here twice: the first time for dinner and te food and cocktails were great; the second time was for brunch and it was simply outstanding. I had one of the best egg white omelets ever. Will definitely add this place to our ever growing list of places to try when we are in the city.

we went to this restaurant and have to wait in line before it opened. I was thinking Oh-boy.... then we got into the restaurant and food was amazing it was well worth the wait. The service was excellent. We had fried oysters and fried chicken. I didn't think it was possible to make it so much better. It was the... More

Went on a Tuesday night fearing the worst getting the best. I had been told to expect an hour wait for a table and an hour for food. My party of 3 arrived at 6:30PM it took 20 minutes to be seated. The wait staff immediately took our drink orders and offered to bring starters. We ordered the Pimento Cheese... More
