Attentive experience

Went on a Tuesday night fearing the worst getting the best. I had been told to expect an hour wait for a table and an hour for food. My party of 3 arrived at 6:30PM it took 20 minutes to be seated. The wait staff immediately took our drink orders and offered to bring starters. We ordered the... read more

WOW, the food is always high quality and delicious. Small place and long lines, but definitely worth the wait. My favorite is their weekend brunch which features their outstanding Chicken & Waffles or Cajun Scramble.

My wife and I drove down from Seattle to have dinner here on Saturday with my dad and 2 youngest brothers who were visiting Portland, from NC. Let that sink in a bit....yep, it's that good. One word of advice: Tripadvisor shows that Screen Door is open all Saturday...that is not true...they don't open until 5:30pm. We showed up at... More

I've been here 4 or 5 times, for both brunch and dinner, and it is one of our favorite local spots. Fantastic southern soul food, made with local ingredients. My fiance and his brother had the Cathead Biscuit Sandwich this time around, fried chicken on a giant biscuit with an egg and slathered in gravy; it was delightful. I loved... More

We went to the Screen Door on the recommendations here on Tripadvisor. The food for the most part was incredibly good and reasonable. The Hush puppies are pure Southern comfort food as is the creamy Mac 'n Cheese. I was a little disappointed in the Gumbo ( obviously not made from a roux) and the Shrimp and grits, mostly because... One word BANOFFE PIE to die for....The food was amazing but this pie was the perfect paired with a glass of Granacha. It was a perfect finish to a Sunday night meal leaving me satiated and happy!!

Went here for my SO's Birthday dinner. Sunday night, one hour estimated wait for the two of us. Showed up around 7pm for reference. Got on the list, sat in the lobby as we got lucky with another couple just getting up for their own table. Watched the many people in the busy lobby go by as they nearly tripped... More

This charming restaurant offers delicious southern meals in a friendly and efficient environment. All of the meals we have had here have been top-notch and are served by friendly and knowledgeable staff. The Screen Door Plate offers endless options -- try the mac and cheese and whatever seasonal vegetables are on special.

What can I say that hasn't already been said... Highlights for me (and I can't believe I'm saying this) were the Mac and Cheese and an amazing roasted beet salad. There was a long line for obvious reasons - the food is fantastic - but they took our names and we were seated in less than an hour. It was... More

Good news for Portland. You can get a real nice slice of Southern cuisine without having to jump a plane. If Portland does one thing better than most, it is the care it takes over ingredients. Local, fresh produce is obvious here. Good, simple food, cooked with a Southern flair. You can spend double else ware and not get the... More
