Good news for Portland. You can get a real nice slice of Southern cuisine without having to jump a plane. If Portland does one thing better than most, it is the care it takes over ingredients. Local, fresh produce is obvious here. Good, simple food, cooked with a Southern flair. You can spend double else ware and not get the... More

I had a dinner in Screen door based on the reviews here in Tripadvisor. The place was very busy and noisy, the food - very ordinary, tasted like in a cheap bar. Disappointing.

We followed the positive tripadvisor reviews to this place and were not disappointed! They have gorgeously presented food that comes out piled high on plates and nicely balanced morning cocktails. Their dishes include lots of clean, well-executed versions of comfort classics like friend chicken and waffles, grits, hashes and biscuits with gravy with a few welcome punch-ups like praline coated... I was in town for the evening and wanted to try something different. Boy am I glad we did. Charming place, a bit loud at times. We had fried chicken, mashed potatoes with ham gravy. Ham gravy not my first choice but apparently well loved by the locals. My husband loved the collard greens! We also tried the shrimp and... More

WOW! What an amazing meal at such an unassuming place. We were greeted right away when we we arrived and the line was there to meet us as well. But, the host asked if we would be ok to dine on the patio to get immediate seating. No problem, they had a lot of overhead heaters. Simple decor out there... More

Ok, Portland is known for great food, but this place is off the hook! I thank tripadvisor reviewers for leading me to this gem, and I have to put in my two cents. The sage lemonade is to die for, I've used other herbs before, but will be stealing this for future summer parties! We couldn't decide on what to... More

People are lined up out the door, the place is extremely noisy, and who cares. We ordered from the seasonal menu and everything was wonderful. The carrots with roasted poblano peppers and a cilantro, cumin and lime vinaigrette were awesome. Who'd have thought to put those things together? Oh…someone who knows their stuff.

The staff was friendly and pretty quick considering the enormous amount of business. The food was unreal!! Great choices, great prices for the amount and quality of food you get. This is a must visit restaurant when you are in Portland!

Screen Door came highly recommended. As a Southerner I was very impressed with the food-terrific chicken, pork, catfish & the best Southern sides ever. Most things are locally sourced & it shows. Portions are large. Has a casual Portland vibe with a good wine and beer selection. We arrived for dinner even before it opened & were lucky to be... More

The other morining I hapenned upon a guy looking super pissed off outside of the Screen Door. He explained to me that he was visiting from L.A. and that he only had one day in town. He had read some glowing review about the Screen Door but had somehow overlooked the fact that they only serve breakfast on the weekend.... More
