Good lunch passing through Portland

I've eaten here before, so when I hit Portland just before noon on Friday, May 15 I decided to stop in for lunch. A cup of the Hungarian mushroom soup that I've enjoyed on past visits did not disappoint. The Classic (grilled corned beef on rye with sauerkraut and Russian dressing) was good, as... read more

Visiting Portland with my family. My wife had visited Kenny and Zuke's before and had been looking forward to visiting again. I agree with her that the food is something you will crave. However, when we started our dining experience the service started going downhill fast - this took away from the food. Examples included shoving my family into a... More

An awesome deli, like being back in NY. A great space, open and large and cool. The menu is NY deli centric with blintzes, pastrami, franks, latkes, etc. A wonderful choice for eating. Pro tip - I coveted the fried chicken here but it's only served Wednesdays.

If one were to be lead in blindfolded then upon taking it off you would think your back on the City ( New York City) or Long Island. The only thing missing are surly wait staff !! So if your like me and from the east coast where tradition is a weekend visit to the deli and your in the... More

What is there to dislike? Really excellent corned beef Rueben with slaw side. Excellent service (albeit it was slow) in a classic deli atmosphere. One of my fav's when in Portland (just a block away from Powell's Bookstore

I walked by Kenny and Zuke's place and decided to go in because there were a lot of people inside, and more going in. The menu was great, but I opted for my old standby, matzo ball soup. It was good, though it was a little oily. They also had a few root beers on the menu. I had the... More

Have you seen the Jerry Seinfeld "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" episode with Fred Armisen in Portland, Oregon? On that episode, they reference "hipster service" and have a visual called the "hipster service 'wait-o-meter.'" I was reminded (pleasantly) of this when I dined here. But, not to worry. My server was over-the-top engaging and I immediately fell in love with... More

Others have already stated this, so I'll make my point directly: the food, especially the corned beef, pastrami and rye bread, was pretty bad. Yes, I'm originally from NY, but I now live in Seattle, and can find better deli meat there than I did at this alleged NY/kosher style delicatessen. The two meats were over-smoked and indistinguishable from one... More

Make their own bagels. The best their is in Portland but not as good as most eastern Jewish Deli's. A write up in the NY Times said they were really special. Made corned beef in their own kitchen. I miss NY Jewish Deli's. But if you have a hankering for corned beef in Portland, this is the best you will... More

If I could give zero stars I would. We love great food and ate in some amazing restaurants in Portland. We went here for some good corn beef hash. What a mistake! I kid you not when I say it was black, yes black! Dry as a bone. Inedible. The latkes were dry, tough and also burnt. Wake up guys.... More
