Authentic Irish pub

Kells is one of 2 downtown Portland Irish pubs and is the better of the 2. There is nightly live music, very Irish foods like corned beef and cabbage, fish and chips and of course potatoes of various kinds. There is a huge selection of whiskeys, some very high end, literally top shelf. One wall... read more

We like this pub; it feels right. The waitstaff are great, the food is very good, and the beer is delicious.

As said, great food. Haven't had a clinker. Beers are a bit "thin" in my opinion. So many great micro brews in Portland. That said, maybe they are "Irish". Service can be a bit slow at times. But, apologies accepted.

It feels like a fine Irish pub, and the staff is as welcoming as any Irish pub's. We had traditional Irish dishes and Guinness... it was all quite good and reasonably priced. It's a fun place to look around too - photos and memorabilia on the walls, dollars and upside down Christmas trees on the ceiling. The location is quite... More

We went to Kells last Sunday. On previous visits we had great food, but not this time. They had a special that evening of prime rib that 3 of us ordered. (2 rare and 1 medium rare) The meat came...there was not a bit of juice on the plate, the medium rare was brown all the way through and the... More

My honey and I love this place and stop in as much as we can. Food and drink are YUMMY!!! The live music starts at 9:00 p.m., and always worth listening to.

The money on the ceiling (put there with "Irish magic") was fun (and they donate the money to a local charity at the end of each year. The food was great and we were sad that we didn't make it back later in the evening for their live music. Fun staff. Great food. The Irish nachos were amazing!

We were pleasantly surprised by their excellent food and quality of Guinness!!! They had some unexpected healthy items on their menu amongst the usual Irish stews, meatballs, corned beef and such like a chicken curry soup (delicious!), barley risotto and a kale quinoa salad. Loved it!!!

Go for their own Irish stout over Guinness. It's better than any Guinness you'll find in the states. They're food is okay. Anything you'd hope for in an American Irish Pub, but nothing was too notable. Again, try their brews... I can't believe how much of a Guinness snob I've become after spending some time in Ireland, but their stout... More
