The atmosphere of the Governor Hotel takes you back to a classic time...the details of the decor remind you of the era when this was built. From the beautifully tiled floor to the ornate elevator to the breathtaking wooden bar with the dramatic mirror backdrop and the mounted pheasant, bison, and deer, this reminds you this place served the wealthy... We stopped at Jake's after a great couple hours at Powell's Bookstore. We ate in the bar and the food and service were excellent. Table at the window was nice although a little chilly for us Atlantans. We could have moved but liked this spot...atmosphere is great so not a bad table in the place. My hubby had the French... More

We come back here everytime we're in town. The fish is so delicious. Amazing salmon amd trout. The mac and cheese is probably top three I've ever had. Tasty drinks. And to top it off, the location is gorgeous! Old money opulence!

Located in the beautiful Governor Hotel, this sister-eatery of Jake's Seafood in the city of Portland, offers breakfast in a historic location of mahogany and marble. Great service, clean surroundings and the restaurant provides good value for good food. Breakfast Trio, $11.99. Eggs over-easy, fried potatoes, and home-made muffins. Latte was $5.00. Continental Breakfast, $8.00, with a medley of baked... More

The food is good, service outstanding and it's inside an historic building in Portland, Oregon. The architecture is interesting and the interior appointments (recently restored) are a treat to see but none of it would be worthwhile if the food and service were not good - fortunately both are excellent. Close to public transportation.

Great ambience, especially on a cold wet day. Service was very good. Bloody Mary was very good. Blue plate (pot roast sandwich with fries) was good, but bland. They mixed artichoke hearts and red pepper in with the roast and swiss, but it was not enough to save it from bland. The quality was very good, but the taste was... More

Whether you want so classic food or great cocktails this is the place to eat. Breakfast is great and I highly recommend the locks and bagels. For dinner there are no wrong choices. The history and ambiance is great and the staff is almost always perfect.

Jakes was my favorite restaurant for a great steak but the last time I went (after it was taken over by Landrys) it was mediocre at best. Very sad: won't go there agaib

There are so many excellent restaurants in Portland, don't bother with this one. No creativity on the menu. Salmon was overcooked. They did offer to bring another but the other diners were halfway through their meals and I wasn't going to make them wait. Of our four nights in Portland this was the most disappointing restaurant.

Jake's came highly recommended by the concierge at our hotel and we were thrilled with the character of the restaurant. You can tell they took great pains to keep the ambiance of another era. The place was busy but not overly so for weekday - we had reservations and were seated within 10 minutes. We sampled the wines and found... More
