Wanderings of a traveling nurse

Only one night in Portland so big decision on where to go for dinner. We made the right choice. Fresh seafood galore. Just what we wanted. My husband got the horseradish Panko topped salmon he would no even give me a taste it was so good. His redskin potatoes were excellent. I had the crab and... read more

We arrived on time for our reservation and were seated promptly on a busy Saturday night, but it was 40 minutes before drinks and bread were on our table. Quite a long wait. We went to Jake's expecting great selections of crawfish dishes but there were very few on the menu. The popcorn crawfish appetizer was nothing special. Overbreaded. The... More

My wife and I stopped here for dinner prior to a concert at the Schnitzer. I had been here once before and it was everything I remembered. Excellent wait staff and the food was to die for. We began with the calamari appetizer. Very nice. We then shared a mixed greens salad with vinaigrette dressing. For a main course I... More

The food was exceptional, the portions were generous, the waitstaff were efficient and friendly. The atmosphere was just right for our group of 6 professional colleagues; we were talking away, so the bustling and busy atmosphere was just right. Because we were colleagues from a conference that doesn't often meet, we sat and talked a long time, but we never... More

Love the atmosphere, the food, the drinks and the service. I've only been here twice - a year between visits. The quality remains excellent and the food was as I remembered. Great atmosphere - comfortable and cozy without being stodgy - just a great place all around. I highly recommend it no matter what you choose for dinner. Great fish... More

Jake's has a nice wine menu. The seafood was bland. We ordered the mussels puttanesca and although there was a lot of sauce, there was no spices in the dish. I ordered the halibut cheeks and they were out so they served me a halibut filet with the same preparation, a butter caper sauce. This was totally bland...old fashioned with... More

Classic, old-school, 1940s -50s style seafood and steaks place. Waiters are top notch, dressed in white coats. Cocktail list is full of classics like side cars and seasonal specialties. Lots of fresh local Pacific seafood on the menus like Salmon, Halibut and crab. Excellent service and atmosphere.

We picked this restaurant because it was close to Powell's and because of the oysters. My wife had 1/2 dozen--3 Brookside (sweet) and 3 Kumiai (full-flavored). She had the wild Alaska true cod with Dungeness Crab, Bay Shrimp and Dill Beurre Blanc. Very very good. I started with a very flavorful French onion soup. Unlike many places the cheese was... More

Loved the lunch specials! We got to sit in an area surrounded by windows so we could see the street action. The waitress was knowledgeable and super nice.

I knew nothing about Jake's other than the name. The crawfish drew me in. I was somewhat disappointed to find only 2 o4 3 crawfish items on the menu, but quite pleased with the large serving of etouffe I shared with my wife. The gravy was rich and savory, filled with crawfish and chicken. The sourdough bread was real sourdough,... More
