Great locatIon and food

right on waterfront which explains an hour wait for a table at 6 pm! Sat at bar which was dark but nice. Staff all seemed over-worked and frazzled and only place where they weren't friendly. Cool and professional but not welcoming. However the veggie burger and fries were great and the pickled... read more

We had a superb experience at this classic Portland restaurant -- excellent food, service, and ambience. The restaurant is light and airy, with big windows and high ceilings. I've been coming here since it opened in the 70s (as a pub), and over the years, the VQ has maintained its wonderful reputation for good reason. On this visit, the appetizer... More

We chose to go during the week to avoid crowds. Sat inside as its been high tempertures. Great cocktails to start, duck confit spring rolls to die for, large portions. Short ribs done in guiness and molasses, fabulous combination. Finished with a french sauterne and a light sorbet. Wonderful experience, will definitely return.

Tastefully elegant decor was complemented by attentive, competent service and the best short ribs on the planet. Osso Bucco is also outstanding. The duck confit egg rolls are truly memorable. Everything you would expect from a downtown upscale eatery.

There is no place better to refresh after a hard day's work than the VQ. The beautiful location on the west end of the Hawthorne Bridge - a garden patio adjoining a large lot of grass, surrounded by lovingly cared for flowers and shrubs - is unequaled for a mix of excitement and serenity. Perfect downtown! The crowd is always... More

Our first visit to Portland has been great. We toured the willamette yesterday with Domaine Serene being the high light of the day. We had purchased a bottle of 2011 Evenstad Pinot Noir and we were looking for a restaurant whose food could do justice for the wine. Our friends and our hotel recommended Veritable Quandry but said it may... More

I meet my friend here for lunch once a month, but back in the day (1980s) this place was one of the best hang out bars. Late night fun and cheap drinks. Now it's a great place to meet for a fun lunch and dinner before a show at the Keller. We love Dale, she is worth the visit to... More

Call ahead and make reservation. Otherwise, more than likely you won't be eating there. I live near the restaurant and walk by there often and this place is always busy and packed with customers. My steak was prepared and presented beautifully, service from the staff was excellent. If you can't get a reservation, then try finding a spot at the... More

This is my "go to" restaurant in Portland when friends come into town or I am looking for a good night out with friends. Always consistent in food taste and preparation, along with a comfortable atmosphere - and outdoor seating in the good weather - make this a top choice for lunch, dinner, or weekend breakfast.

We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with our 2 sons and their wives. We were seated in the upper back level with a view of the ocean. The setting was perfect for us to talk and be heard without any loud sounds. The service was excellent; polite, friendly, accommodating and efficient. Each of the 6 entrees was superb. Each had...
