Closing

Heartbroken that this old gem is closing only to make room for a new building. Get in while you can!

We had a gift card so decided to go for Tuesday lunch on a rainy Portland day. The place was packed and we had no reservations so had to sit at the bar and wait for a table in the bar area. If you go, have reservations even for lunch especially since the establishment is closing. The portions were large... More

It was a wonderful meal. And a fantastic wine. We will miss this Portland night out spot. Sad that it is leaving.

The food and atmosphere are both wonderful--can't believe they're closing! Too bad for everyone who likes neat, established restaurants with class!

This is a great place, very reminiscent of the Tadich Grill in San Francisco. I had a terrific seafood stew - Tadich would call it ciopino - and my wife had the flatiron steak. We sat at the bar - the place to be. The food was great. The dark wood bar was fun. Service was excellent. Come here.

We want to give our customers the whole experience, from the quality of the food to the excellent service. The bar is a fun place to watch all the action happen -- and to tuck into some seafood stew! Hope to see you again soon. Warmly, Erin, GM More

Had to go to the #1 rated restaurant in Portland. Went for brunch and had the delicious Johnny Cakes. Make reservations beforehand if you want to sit in the dining room. Good service too!

We have a lot of people coming in, so the reservation was a great idea, Kristen! Brunch is one of our favorite meals, and those Johnny Cakes are a classic. We look forward to seeing you again on your next trip to Portland! All the best, Erin, GM More

Oh no - just heard that the VQ will be closing later this year since the building has been sold to the county! It's one of my favorite Portland restaurants and will be sorely missed. The patio is the perfect place to have a meal on a beautiful spring day or summer evening. Food, service, and ambiance are all wonderful.... More

It's wonderful that we are one of your favorite Portland restaurants, Susan -- and yes, we are sadly closing this fall. I am so pleased that you find the food, service, and ambiance to be wonderful. Please come by and see us again soon -- take advantage of that patio! We want to give it as much love as we... More

We started with the bacon wrapped dates and the rabbit pate. Both were delicious. Really wonderful combinations of flavors, savory and sweet. For the main courses we ordered the duck breast, short rib, and osso bucco. Each, was again, just excellent. Our server had notified us of the soufflé for dessert (it takes 35 minutes I believe), so we ordered... More

We use only the freshest local ingredients, and it's wonderful that you could taste their complexity through the flavors in your dishes! We find that local wines tend to bring out these flavors, so it's great that you appreciated that as well! I hope that you come back for more of our standout soufflé! All the best to you, Erin,... When we travel to Portland and have dinner out, we continue to go to VQ. The reasons are obvious: great service ( our reservation was exactly as we requested and an attentive waiter), excellent food (my duck breast and for my wife petrale sole with beets on barley risotto), and an amazing wine list! An easy five stars! (Too full... More

Time is short for the venerable VQ. Sadly, the owner has sold the building to Multnomah County. End of summer and then, what. Will the quandary arise in a new location?
