Dragonwell Bistro is centrally located in Downtown Portland at SW 1st and Yamhill by next to the MAX Yamhill Station. If you dare, come inside and take a look, this is not your ordinary Chinese Restaurant. when you walk in, you will be greeted with an Upscale Bistro with high ceilings and a full spacious bar along with the Newer decorations Owner Jack Brought back from China. The smell of the food will make you want to sit down, and one taste of any of their popular dishes some of which was brought back by Jack from the 20 years of travelling in China. will keep you coming back time after time. If you are a visit, be sure to flag Jack down to give you some suggested place to go, as he grew up here in Portland but have live in Portland, San Francisco, LA, New York and Asia for the past 20 years. We love visitors, from all over!!

Great downtown location - good place for lunch

I am not a huge fan of Chinese food, but if I go for Chinese or my friends want to go, this is where I recommend in the Southwest downtown area 1 block from the water front park right by the outbound Yamhill Max stop. The outside is not pretentious and you hardly know it's there. But when you... read more

This is a great happy hour spot. The prices are decent, and the food is worth stopping for. If you like a little kick in your food the salt and pepper calamari is the best. If you don't work downtown and are not walking I find there is usually parking on the street. But remember to feed the meter. There... More

Actually we ended up here totally by accident due to GPS mix up. We saw that it had good reviews but were skeptical when went in and it was almost empty. Realizing we it was still early we ordered. I don't like pot stickers as rule these were huge and sooo yummy, we also ordered their specialty pork dumplings with... More

We tried this place tonight since it's in our neighborhood and had a higher rating on google than a very well regarded restaurant across town ... what a mistake! The dumplings were soggy and flavorless, and the Ma Po tofu had no Ma (sichuan peppercorns) and very little La (chilis) ... I've had this dish over 100 times, including in... More

Finally got the chance to stop in and try some food--and glad I did. It was happy hour--and the food menu ranged from $2 to $6 a dish. The hot and sour soup was tasty. Also ordered tang tang noodles. They were really good, liked the sauce, but felt like a few more veggies on top would have been nice.... More

Our annual end of vacation dinner in Portland at Dragonwell did not disappoint. The service was again amazing and the food was great. The only place we have found for wonderful Xaio Long Bao outside of Vancouver makes it worth the trip alone. Highly recommend this for anyone looking for Shanhai Chinese style food.

The title pretty much tells the whole tale. But I want to start out saying that we have been loyal customers to Dragonwell (and back when it was Sungari) for over a decade. But no more. We (4 of us) had reservations for 6:30 on Christmas (our ritual for years). Our table wasn't available when we arrived. Okay, whatever, that... More

Hi Liz, First of All, I am so embarrassed that i have to find out about your "terrible experience" here at Dragonwell, I actually was there on Christmas Day (we were completely packed that night) when you and your guests were there. I admit the wait for food was way too long, and if I were you I would do... More

We reserved the signature soup dumplings ahead, only to be told after waiting an hour for food that they were sold out. In fact 3 out of 4 dishes we ordered were not available. The black mushroom Bok Choy had few black mushrooms and mostly regular white button mushrooms, since this was labeled as black mushroom and not mixed, I... More

Hi Vikki, I am sorry about your experience on Christmas day was less than perfect, I want to make it up to you so if you come back I make sure I give you the Soup dumpling free of charge when you come back the next visit. On Christmas day we were just super packed with every inch of space... More

Talk about a "funky" Asian place with great food & music in a unpretentious, friendly, atmosphere, Dragonwell Bistro is it! Don't expect to walk into your typical Asian restaurant decorated with all the usual Asian art and lanterns or upscale fine dining. No Sir! It's called a Bistro with a Good Bar & TV, because it is. John, who appeared... More

We ate at Dragonwell Bistro before a concert at the Keller Center. It was our first time at the restaurant. It was quiet (which was nice). We were there around 5pm on a Saturday. The service was excellent. They found our reservation quickly and sat us at a table we requested. The server was very nice and helpful. He gave... More
