My wife and I have eaten dim sum throughout Asia and North America, some superb, some average, and some not so good. With that as background, I can say without reservation that this was probably the worst we've ever had, and by a comfortable margin. We should have been put on notice when we walked in for Sunday lunch and... More

Came here for dim sum, I do like how they serve it all day every day although there aren't very many carts going through. The dishes themselves are hit or miss, steam buns and veggies are usually pretty good although the various dumplings we tried seemed to be a little stale and lukewarm. We did try a ginger chicken dish... More

So I wanted to take some friends who have never had Dim Sum to a place that I had been told was great, so off we went. Long story short, very normal safe options, Average flavors, not bad but would try other places. Just so so.

My family started coming to Fong Chong when it was basically a small Chinese grocery store that made local deliveries to residences in the Portland area. A fire nearly 45 years ago gutted the small store and a year or so later they re-opened with a brand new restaurant (No longer a grocery store) The restaurant was an instant success... More

We have eaten here 4 or 5 times. I have read good and bad reviews. Each time we have eaten here it is right when they open on Sundays at 10AM. The food is piping hot and yummy. Some say that the food gets reheated later in the day, that may be?? We hope they clean up the place and... More

We were recommended to this restaurant and as we love dim sum , went there for lunch whilst visiting the Sunday crafts market. It was great. Quick service and good quality food--would go there again

We should have known just by entering this place, but we were new to the Portland Or area and thought we would check out "China Town" eateries. First the entryway was dirty, the gentleman who sat us acted like he could care less if we were there, the sugar and soy sauce containers were grimy. The food was hot but... More

We lived in Portland and always raved about this restaurant--especially their dim sum. While visiting last month we found that the restaurant is not what it once was. The dim sum was ho hum.. That is the only way to describe it--another way to describe it is to say that it has become Americanized. That is really too bad since... More

When I worked near downtown, I used to enjoy dim sum at Fong Chong with some regularity. In those days the food was fresh and generally tasty -- certainly more than ample and consistently good. Today I visited for the first time in about eight years and was disappointed at the uneveness of the food and the service. Some of... More

You want Chinese food / Dim Sum in Chinatown? Then this is the place. There is nothing cool, hip, modern or even really clean (thus the authenticity) about Fong Chong. Fong Chong is about good Dim Sum and huge plates of Mongolian Beef, Sizzling Squid, spicy Ma Pao Tofu and the like. Fong Chong is the kind of place where... More
