Great Menu makes up for fair service

It was lunch but that doesn't make up for curt responses to my questions. That said, I really enjoyed every dish we tried. The meals are huge so we tried 3 appetizers and still a lot. The calamari was just right - not to much batter nor over cooked. I will go again when back in Portland. I want... read more

My family had just an okay experience. The service was very quick, but that seemed to be due to the way they added a pile of steamed veggies to every dish and meats that were obviously just dropped in at the last second. I found the food rather bland, they didn't ask about level of spiciness or offer the relish... More

A friend and I recently visited this restaurant and it was amazing. Delicious spring rolls. Great service. My water was never more than half empty (or half full? Hmm..) and the plum peanut sauce with my pad thai was just.... amazing. I could have just eaten that sauce it was so good.

The restaurant is solid and unpretentious. There is no salt and pepper on the tables. I thought I would try my food before I asked for them. And then realized the reason for no condiments. The food is perfect.

Recently visited with friends and could not have been happier with the experience. Service was friendly, helpful, welcoming, and prompt. Server recommended the thai iced teas, which were fantastic. The food was stellar. Apps were great to start - egg rolls and little pork meat sticks. After that, the tangerine duck was the only thing I could see myself ordering... More

Stopped in for a quick dinner after a long day. Had appetizer and entree off of the "specials menu". Crab cake and fried snapper. Crab cake was very good, snapper was "okay" ... not something I'd order again, not because it was not good, it just didn't do anything for me. I'll definitely try something else ... very good service... More

Stopped in on the way home from a day at the beach. Found this restaurant on TripAdvisor. Got good, well-deserved reviews. Service is good, friendly, efficient. Sat down at one of the 10-12 tables which was set with a napkin, fork, and plate. Our order was placed on our table in about 10-15 minutes, tops. The orders came on their... More

My wife and I had a great experience at the Red Onion this evening. The service was the best ever and all coordinated so well with the three folks waiting on diner's needs. The selection was varied with many opportunities for a variety of dishes. The food was excellent best Thai ever for us. Will definitely return in the future.

My boyfriend and I definitely consider Red Onion on 23rd Ave as one of our favorite Thai restaurants in Portland. We can't help but order the Red or Yellow Curry (Top 20% in Portland) and Pad See Ew, or Pad Kee Mao every time we visit. However the Crab Fried Rice is also a truly delicious meal. Since we live...
