Great breakfast spot

I love breakfast and I love Byways. It's perfect service and food, albeit with the exception of their packets of jam (why not match the quality of everything else they serve with some decent jam), and the space, with it's fifties' diner feel, is great. If it weren't for the jam, I'd have given... read more

This restaurant has counter seating for about 8 and booth and table seating for perhaps 25-30. The tables and booths seat a maximum of 4 and are not spacious. There are no reservations just a sign-in list at the door. There is a 2-person bench for waiting which leaves most people standing outside. Our party of 4 came for a... More

Love this little cafe, it has an amazing atmosphere and the service is fantastic as is the food! We had not been back to Portland for about 6 years and headed straight back to this cafe for breakfast and it was still the same great food and service.

It is just like stepping six decades into the past. Everything seemed as it would be in a 50's diner. A long counter is along one wall with round red Naugahyde covered stools. The opposite wall is lined with booths covered in the same red. Several small tables fill the remaining floor space. The menu is filled with unique breakfast... More

It's like walking in your grandmothers house or maybe someone's home who's attention span changes rapidly from one thing to another . It's fun , it's funky & it's pretty cute . Service was great , our gal was sweet & attentive Food was pretty good for breakfast though the pancakes were hard to cut through and were not that... More

While in Portland, I wanted a big breakfast to start my day, and the Byway Cafe in Portland turned out to the perfect choice! Great food, great value, great service. A variety without pretentious, over priced 'breakfast cuisine'.

My friends and I had lunch here - I had a hamburger and fries and they had the veggie burger. We all thought it was great. It is a busy place but fortunately we found a table right away. Service was very good and the waitress was attentive. Overall, a very good experience.

Byways Cafe was recommended by our hotel for breakfast and we were not disappointed!! It has a retro feel-American Diner decor inside which is cool. Our server was just great very happy and just made our breakfast that much better. Everything we ordered was fresh and delicious. I don't think it matters what you order from the menu it all... I'm in the airline business and travel to Portland several times a year. I started have breakfast here eight years ago. It's a quirky fun place to eat. Jeb his sister Comfort know me. Food is tasty albeit ain't cheap. Breakfast will cost you $15 with the tip. The food and atmosphere is worth it. Be careful and pay attention... More

This is the second time we have visited the Byways Cafe. Again, we were not disappointed. The wait staff was fabulous, although the young lady busser was a bit standoffish. The food was fabulous, worth the drive in. My daughter had the Napa burger and called it "heaven on a bun!". Great food, great prices. We'll go back when visiting... More
