Doesn't live up to its rep

There are many other places in Portland (and the Pearl) to get a better breakfast. Byways is original and has been there forever, Portlanders flock there to remember a bygone time. But the food there is just OK.

Our food - migas and the big valley omelette - was great. The potatoes are okay (not as good as Utopia cafe, if I may). The service was good and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. I'm not sure if it's worth a super long wait (we got there pretty early on a Sunday and beat the crowds) but it's... More

As breakfast foodies, we greatly appreciated this place. Nice diner style hole in the wall with funky collections, but fantastic traditional selection of breakfast foods for every pallet, large portions with a great options for eating healthy or with special needs! Thanks Byways!

Came here for breakfast one Saturday morning and was able to bypass the line by sitting at the bar. Very simple diner style breakfast spot. Great selections of food and even better service!

I loved this place. Had the best turkey burger I think I had ever had. It was the monterey burger and it had some kick! Reasonable price, great waiter, super friendly. Really loved it.

Walk inside and be prepared to see some of the greatest collections of "stuff" you've ever seen! The place is funky and too much fun! The food is down home comfort from the word go, and the staff are friendly, caring and all about making you feel at home. A+!

The decor is old diner-ish with a splash of random knick knacks. Yes it's kinda dusty and rundown. It is not a large place. Max seating for a group together is 4 and there is no space for those waiting to be seated other than outside. All of that being said I will be visiting every single time I visit... More

My wife and I found this place on tripadvisor and were not disappointed. Good portions (Be very hungry for the Biscuits and Gravy!), great service and good food. If you like diner-like breakfasts you will enjoy, bur arrive early. It starts to get busy by 9am on the weekends.

I love breakfast and I love Byways. It's perfect service and food, albeit with the exception of their packets of jam (why not match the quality of everything else they serve with some decent jam), and the space, with it's fifties' diner feel, is great. If it weren't for the jam, I'd have given Byways 5 big stars.

This restaurant has counter seating for about 8 and booth and table seating for perhaps 25-30. The tables and booths seat a maximum of 4 and are not spacious. There are no reservations just a sign-in list at the door. There is a 2-person bench for waiting which leaves most people standing outside. Our party of 4 came for a... More
