The hosts at the B&B I stayed at in Portland recommended Paley's Place to me and am I ever glad they did! I dined with a business associate on a beautiful October evening on the front porch and without a doubt I will return. As a lover of fine food prepared exceptionally well I am always challenged by having to... more

I've been to Paley's a few times, and for the most part the dining experiences have been positive. But be aware that the servers take their time waiting on you and so you will spend several hours enjoying your meal - great if you want a long time to converse with your dinner companions, but bad if you are trying... more

Superb from start to finish, great staff, incredible food, comfortable, appropriate for a romatic dinner, excellent menu choices. We had a bottle of local chardonnay and started with duck rillete, crispy black pudding with spicy pepper aioli, and ?tessarosa, which is cured meat from the pig snout and head! Then we shared NY strip steak which tasted like it was... more

Overall, this is a little gem in the alphabet district. The staff, from greeting to service, were impecable and personable. We especially enjoyed the crab risotto (perfectly cooked, well seasoned) and the creamy, bacon-scented polenta that was served with the pork shoulder. The sweetbreads were just so slightly overcooked, but the pork belly that came with it made for a... more

Great place, fantastic food, but expect to pay ~$25 per entree, and you will order more than one entree per person if you want more than just a snack. Very accommodating staff. We came on a Friday night with no reservations, bar&restaurant was full, and they were able to work us in after about half hour. We were offered inside... more

This was by far the best dining experience in Portland. The restaurant has a nice level of conversation without being noisy. It had an awesome atmosphere. The drinks were great--I had a st. germaine spritzer. The tables are nicely spaced out so you aren't on top of other people. Intimate setting. Onto the most important part, the food. OMG. A... more

"Please, maximum 2 credit cards per table." "*Substitutions are politely declined." I don't go back to places with stipulations on the menu. Tacky. more

We received a warm welcome when we arrived. Our meal started with a complimentary tablespoon or two of a cold soup made from peas. It had the flavor of peas eaten fresh from the garden. One of us started with a salad described, thus: Savoy Cabbage, Tender Spicy Greens, Radish & Prosciutto Salad, Aged Goat Cheese, House Ranch Dressing ($12)... more

These guys won the James Beard NW in 2005, and we've eaten here twice since. Prices are high, but not out of line for what you're getting. As so often happens in this type of restaurant, I have trouble choosing because everything sounds interesting. The half-portions go a long way to helping resolve the dilemma. The Kobe tartare is out... more
