Six friends were visiting Portland. Based on the James Beard award and recent review in the Washington Post , we selected Paley's for our special dinner of the trip. We had mixed opinions. We were welcomed and seated immediately; the environment was warm and pleasant. The waitress was friendly and helpful in selections. The service was slow. I had oxtail... More

Portland is a real foodie city we've eaten in a number of great restaurants since we moved here from Paris last fall. Paley's, however, was simply off the charts. Every course was perfect! My wife and I both ordered the five-course tasting menu with wine parings. Rather than brining us save identical courses, our server asked if we would like... More

I reserve 5 stars for the best and Paley's hits the mark. Located away from the crowded downtown area in an old house, the small dinning area is warm and inviting. The staff was terrific, very cordial/friendly while also efficient. And best of all, the food. We had the escargot entrée and lamb shank. Both were exceptional. The waiter helped... More

Paley's Place was recommended to us by our wine tour guide and I'm glad we took his recommendation. The restaurant is situated in a small house in the Alphabet district which has been completely renovated inside to a more modern feel. The place is perfect for a quiet couples dinner out and I loved the fact they offer half portions... More

We were taken by friends for an anniversary dinner and found this restaurant a lovely spot to celebrate. The service was friendly and knowledgeable. As a lover of lamb shank I ordered that and it was done to perfection. Wonderful sauce, different than any other I have had. A great visit. Wine pricing was a bit high, but found that... More

We were referred here for a special occasion dinner at the last minute by our hotel, and were very pleased. Set in an old home, it was almost like attending a very special dinner party. We went for the tasting menu, and for those foodies used to tasting menus being dozens of courses of tiny works of art, this one... More

Foie gras - melt in your mouth. Halibut - soft and moist and flavoursome. Salad - just perfect. And a delightful fellow serving us, knowledgeable on wines and attentive. It is a a lovely little restaurant. We went with friends from Portland who are in the restaurant business and know the best places to go. It is a 10/10 restaurant.

We recently had to choose one place to eat in Portland on a quick trip and after much research chose Paley's. We were not disappointed. Their genius half portions of their mains gives folks a chance to try a few dishes. The two of us had the grilled asparagus with ricotta and preserved lemon and a half order of the... More
