Authentic Italian Experience

My friend and I stopped in during guy's weekend. He has a friend that is/was related to somebody there. When we told the waiter, he asked if "...we wanted then to feed us?" When we said yes, he took our menus and served us 6-7 courses of what they felt we should eat. It was amazing. While each... read more

Wow, everything tastes great at Caffe Mingo. They really know Italian cooking and appetizers, salads, first/second courses, etc. are fabulous! Great wine list and 5-star service. A do not miss while in NW Portland for Italian food lovers!

A few weeks ago my wife and daughter-in-law eat at Cafe Mingo. The food was terrific, the service excellent but the noise level was way, way to high. They need to put in some sound-absorbing material on the ceilings and maybe some sound-absorbing dividers. It's really hard to enjoy a good meal when you can't hear the person across from... More

This is a small little place that tries hard to be casual. Maybe it was a bad night, but the food was not very good. My companion's beef dish was a very poor cut of meat that was chewy and had very little flavor. He sent it back and opted for no dinner. The chicken in my Caesar salad had... More

We ate dinner here with family. We had a great meal and great experience from start to finish. The fresh bread and seasoned olive oil started our meal. The antipasto assortiti (smoked meats with pickled veggies) and mushroom soup were excellent. I had a main course of lamb chops and they were some of the best I've had. The other... More

We made no advanced plans for Valentine's Day and thought we'd be ordering room service due to our lack of planning while visiting Portland. Upon suggestion of the valet at Hotel Monaco, we walked in and were told they could sit us at the bar in about 45 min. Perfect! That was just the beginning of our good run. The... More

It's a tiny little place with big flavor. My friend and I shared a winter caprese, risotto, and the house specialty Sugo of beef braised in chianti and espresso. Along with that the waiter pick an excellent bottle of 2010 Ripassa that was perfect. The after dinner dessert wine topped off the meal splendidly. Excellent service, delicious food, wonderful drink.... More

This is a small Italian food restaurant the serving portions are great, not a heap of food but medium tasty portions. Small serving space, make reservations or enjoy "Happy Hour" next door in the bar, I had bruschetta with spicy tomato sauce and cold white wine, my partner had spicy meatballs and a tall cool draft beer. Good choice for... More

This was our second visit. While I'd recommend reservations, we happened in mid-week and found a table for two open. The food was delicious, wine list extensive, and our server delightful. While I very much enjoy wine, I'm no pro at choosing the right pairing, let alone understanding the subtle differences from one vintner, etc., to the next. Our server... More
