Bluehour means different things to different people. In French literature it describes any time of day "of heightened emotion." In Portland it has come to mean "a great place to dine." As the premier modern restaurant in the Pearl District, Bluehour opened its doors in 2000, with what Gourmet Magazine describes as, "the most sophisticated, contemporary food in town." Guests choose between the elegant dining room or the casual cafe and bar. Simple, delicious and classic describes the Mediterranean cuisine we create in the Bluehour kitchen each night. The menu is printed daily, but Bluehour standards remain, like the pillowy potato gnocchi with black truffle and the perfectly seared, bacon wrapped sea scallops. Our cheese cart is among the finest on the West Coast, featuring regional and international artisan cheeses.

It was a very special Valentine's Day evening we spent at Bluehour! This beautiful, elegant restaurant is very worthy of high praise for many reasons. Our cocktails created by a lovely young lady at the bar were top notch and set the tone for the evening straight away. She was, in a word, delightful. Our table server was equally friendly... More

Valentine's Day is such a special day, and I'm happy we were able to be part of your amazing date. From the cocktails, to the wine, to the smoked duck, and everything in between, I'm flattered by your compliments, and I couldn't be happier to welcome you back soon! Best, Bruce Carey Owner More

An upscale restaurant in the Pearl. Great ambiance, good for social or private dining. Friendly and very accommodating personnel, exceptional wait staff providing great service. Food above average but pricey for sized portions. Excellent adherence to reservations and table requests.

This was my fourth dinner at Bluehour over the past three years and was definitely the least enjoyable. The previous visit was also a drop off from the first two in almost every way... Service (including knowledge of the food and beverage menus), specials, food quality and temperature, pricing, etc. This was one place you could count on a manager... More

Bill, it's really disappointing to hear that we let you down. We strive for consistency in each dish we serve, as well as in the service we provide. It sounds like you visited us on an off day, as I know the team here works hard to ensure we always give our customers the best. I hope you'll continue to... More

last time I was here: our waiter was awful. Seemed like he was having a terrible day. We were sitting outside and it took FOREVER for us to be helped. And same with the other 4 outside tables. My hamburger was almost raw- beyond pink- disgusting raw meat. And as I recall the waiter didn't ask me how I wanted... More

To disappoint you once is a let down for us, but to have disappointed you twice is truly unacceptable. We pride ourselves on serving high quality food and providing high quality service, so I'm shocked to read that we fell flat in both regards during your visits. Granted there a different tastes in restaurants. However, having traveled the world and eaten at some of the top 50 Michelin's (including many dining establishments in Portland) - Bluehour is great in quality and service. No rush - timing met our needs and entrees and firsts were superb. Bluehour stick to what you do - Portland needs to recognize and... More

A group of eight of us had Thanksgiving dinner at BlueHour. There was a special prix fixe menu with three choices of appetizers, main courses, and dessert. Overall, it was fine but not outstanding. It was very busy that night, so the servers seemed a bit hassled, and given the larger size of our group, we were seated right next... More

I want to apologize for not completely impressing you during your visit with us on Thanksgiving. The prix fixe was intended to be a unique departure from what we usually offer. As for the atmosphere, I wish you would've let your server know about the chill -- we would've happily worked to make you and your party more comfortable. I... More

We arrived 30 minutes before our 6p reservation and asked for a seat at the bar to have a drink while we waited. The bartender was great, perfectly attentive and made a great White Russian. I received a decent pour of Bullet rye and we sat for about ten minutes, talking and enjoying ourselves. The hostess offers us a table... More

I again want to apologize for putting a damper on your special Thanksgiving, Rob. We had Thanksgiving dinner at the Bluehour. While not what one would expect for such a famous holiday, the food was excellent. I do think it would be ideal for a lucnh date or dinner date, especially for a special occasion.

Thanks for joining us on Thanksgiving, Carolyn! I'm really glad you had such a good holiday with us -- we tried to put an interesting spin on things by departing from the typical foods expected, so I'm glad you enjoyed what we were serving. Hope to see you again soon for lunch or dinner! Bruce Carey Owner More

I've been a long-time fan of Bluehour for almost a decade and have sampled brunch, dinner and lunch as well as happy hour. The ambiance is always nice -- modern but not stuffy, and the service is good. I highly recommend this Portland eatery.
