Old school bar with music downstairs

This is a blues bar with some decent food. Upstairs is the bar with some seating, downstairs is music. I would say it is good for the price point, but this is not an upscale establishment unless you want to create a category for "Upscale Dive Bar." Expect well worn and torn furnishings with... read more

We have enjoyed going to The Blue Monk on SE Belmont for the last couple of years and especially have enjoyed their happy hour specials. My favorite is the meatball sandwich and my wife enjoys the mac n' cheese. They also have our favorite beer, Widmer's hefeweizen, although we could have it a little colder than how they serve it.... Spicy vegan tomato soup is so yummy! Followed it with a spinach & beet salad with goat cheese, also very good! The best was The Pagan Jug Band. Kickin' dance music, Zydeco style. Also appreciated that the patrons dancing ranged in age from @ seven up to seventy years of age, all with big smiles.

I love this funky, unpretentious little jazz cafe in Portland's Belmont district. We first saw it on the Rachel Rae show and the beet salad looked so delicious we decided to get in the car and drive there immediately! It was a Sunday and all day is Happy Hour, so we ended up ordering the Seared Ahi Carpaccio, (excellent) Beet... More

The food is amazing. Pricey but great for a fancy date, with some live music (great Jazz) in the downstairs dining room, and excellent beverages. You will forget you are in Portland. They also hosted a rockin' Katrina benefit and I am so grateful for that.

very good bar cuisine, prices are good, amazing beer selection, bar drinks are well done, servers are friendly. Nice atmosphere, it can be quiet and intimate or upbeat.
