We read about this restaurant before our trip to Portland. We thought it would be interesting to visit, with an upcoming trip to Germany and all. The decor and feel of the restaurant were great..kinda like being in the Disney Epcot Germany Pavillion. All the waitresses were dressed in dirndls, and they even had an accordion player. The food was... More

I had some time before my flight out of Portland and had not had a chance to eat so after looking at Starbucks and other better known options I decided on Gustav's Bier Stube. Being from Milwaukee and of German Heritage I would consider myself a "tough sell" for German Cuisine and good beer. I looked over the menu and... More

I was torn between two and three stars but decided on the benefit of the doubt. I was seated immediately but it took quite a while before someone came to take my order. I ordered a stein of beer, but it was a quarter head. I wondered if I should've ordered the regular size beer but I noticed those passing... More

my husband and I ordered the sausage and bread fondue appetizer, very yummy! Then he had his choice of three sausages and sides for his meal and I had the jäger schnitzel. Overall everything was edible except the German potato salad, something was just gross about it, we both left ours. I was disappointed by my schnitzel, the veal was... More

This is what you would hope for in German food. As good as it gets. Very generous portions. Many selections of imported German draft beer. German themed interior a bit like a theater set but tasteful and pleasant.

Enjoyed this bite of Germany ... from the fondue (which was complimentary, since it was my first visit!) to the sausage sampler ... tasty and filling .. I especially liked the red cabbage .. and when I said I would prefer something other than the mashed potatoes, was offered a selection of other choices .. and I chose sauerkraut, which... More

When we're visiting Portland, we stop at either Gustav's location in Clackamas or the Stube on Sandy. Both locations have nearly identical menus. Our most recent meal was fondue and pretzel bergers with a weiss beer. The fondue was good (as always) and the pretzel was fantastic! Fairly large patty, well-seasoned and when ordered medium rare, just a little crust... More

I have eatten at a few German restaurants but most I do not like the food that much.Keep in mind that I am a steak and potatoe fan. The decore was cute and the menu had alot of choices. I got the brat and potatoe pancakes. All tasted very good and fresh. The applesauce reminded me of my Grandmothers. My Aunt... More

Gustav's was another highlight of my business trip to Portland. The food was good. I had fondue, and Jagerschnitzel with spatzel. The service was very good; friendly, welcoming, and they were very helpful with the menu (both food and beer). The decor resembles a German Brew House. I enjoyed my visit and would gladly return.

Always love this area chain, however this location served the worst German food aI have ever eaten. The fondue was excellent and was the saver of the experience, the German beer is excellent but the meal was terrible, greasy and heavy (even for German food)
