Cozy retro eatery in DT Portland

Great location across from the Multnomah County Library downtown Portland. The history of this restaurant goes back 100 years, but moved from it's prior location due to real estate development project. Great location across from the Multnomah County Library downtown Portland. The history of this restaurant goes back 100 years, but moved from it's prior location due to real estate development project. The original booths and decor are in the new location, so once you get inside it feels historic. My first visit the food was so-so. It's got such a... More

I arrived in town on a Sunday...apparently Portland is closed on Sunday. I parked my car near the square and started to walk, looking to eat at one of the many restaurants in the downtown area. Most of them were closed, but I did stumble on Virginia Cafe. I had the Steak sandwich with the shrimp Bisque soup. Mind you,... More

Last night I went to the VC with my boyfriend to meet my sister and her boyfriend for drinks. As soon as I sat at the table, I knew it was going to be an interesting night. It took our server (the only server) only a couple minutes to check in with the table, but I could tell that she... More

Good Prices, good food, great atmosphere, amazing history. Just walked by looking for lunch and stopped in...no major fanfare to bring attention to itself, but obviously well known to be opeb since the 20s...original in its menu even though it is pub fare...great place to eat when you are visiting the Library or the Art Museum.

Stopped in for a burger but got so much more! Great service, great food at reasonable prices. Their menus tell their history in Portland and how the original owners went on to start the Spaghetti Factory chain. Loved the burger and the home cooked style fries. Pefect!

we came an extra time for lunch to the virginia cafe's 100th anniversary...leah is always wonderful, funny, and she added plaques to the vintage photos in honor of 100 yrs...we all talked about the history around broadway when all the theater marquees were lit up going back before being demolished...we began with a pbr, and a gin lemon drink that... This place has amazing food. The waitress was very friendly and took the time out to provide us with insights on the city. The food was absolutely amazing. I had the three cheese grilled cheese and it was too die for. The prices are reasonable

I always get a wonderfully different version of traditional comfort foods delivered with panache and a twist by a quirky staffer who knows just what to do to make the meal a memorable experience. The restaurant is right in the heart of things and convenient to parking, shopping, library browsing. And the prices are easy to swallow,

We went for an early dinner & caught the happy hour prices, yay for us! Two cheeseburgers with the best homemade french fries & a couple of beers for $20!! You can't beat that! I love how nostalgic this old place is, the food is always great and so is the service. A fun piece of Portland history that you... More

Wouldn't serve me based on the fact that we hadn't tipped enough the previous visit. We aren't from around here and weren't aware of that a large tip was expected at a bar. A polite word and I would have happily given an extra tip to make up for it but instead rudely chucked us out like we were scum.
