The food is excellent though not inexpensive; and the portions are large -- so SHARE. Unless you've got big eaters or want to take home doggie bags -- share. The waiter may discourage this, but follow your appetite. Everything is a la cart -- even the side of potatoes can be shared by 2 to 4. The meat plate for... More

Just ate there and the food is excellent, best meats I have had in Portland. The setting is small and a little crowded feeling, but the food is every bit worth the trip. Get several different offerings to share, there's too much good stuff to pass up.

There are not enough words to express how much I enjoyed Ox. I was by myself so was sat at the bar very close to the two guests at my sides. We all ended up friends by the end of the meal. Gorgous restaurant, great food and bar. Dont miss the pickle martini. The mushrooms cooked in fois gras were... More

Be sure to go early to claim your table for the first seating. Enjoy the bar and if you go early enough, snag an outside table to enjoy your cocktails before dinner. All-in-all, a great experience, from the service to the food to the atmosphere. Interesting mix of people, from your typical, casual Portlander in shorts and flannel to the... More

This was a great restaurant! The food was very interesting.....not your average cuisine. There were many exotic type dishes and food that I normally don't eat, but I LOVED it all. I wish they took reservations as the wait for a table can be quite long.

The WSJ recently named this one of the ten best modern steak houses in America. We have dinned here twice and the experience was pretty much identical both times. The food is top-notch across the board. That is based on having eight different dishes of seafood, pork or beef (not counting an excellent salad and potatoes that came with the... More

This was a super surprise great experience! Going to see James Taylor in Portland, and stopped at Ox, and had the absolute best Oysters I have ever had as an appetizer.and the hostess got us in right away knowing we were in a hurry. The bartender was a super mixologist! We told him our favorite liquors and he made us... More

My husband and I ate here last June. He's a chef and a meat eater who likes to try a variety of restaurants when we travel, and he had heard that Ox was really good. I did not want to go at all, convinced that there would be nothing for me to eat. I was wrong. I had a really... More

We keep coming back and we are never disappointed. Being vegetarian with friends who enjoy eating meat, this is the place to go. We take out of town guests, family, go for special occasions. It has it all. We go at least once a quarter to Ox, so we can feel okay about the world. Go with the intention that... More

I had dinner with 5 other people so we ordered quite a few menu items and all shared - everything was really great - skirt steak was fantastic as were the appetizers, salads and desserts. Great service - really knew the menu!
