Had three sashimi platters, including the chef's choice and a roll. The sashimi platters come with 6 pieces of fish -- and these are not cheap cuts -- I'm guessing we ended up with nearly 1/2 pound of fish on the chef's choice (3 types x 6 pieces) alone. We saw the infamous "boats" of sushi go by and they... More

My wife and I have been to Sansai 6-8 times and have determined that, at least for us, their "boat" options are the way to go. For less than $30, you get a very generous sampling of sushi, sashimi, rolls, teriyaki chicken and tempura veggies. I usually peel off the tempura breading (it's a bit thick for my liking), but... Sure, it's westernized sushi and there is a questionable amount of deep fried items on the meal, but go for it. I go every time I'm in Portland. The Calamari Bombs are ridiculously, sinfully good. To counterbalance that poor (but worth it!) nutritional choice we also ordered a couple of salads which were great at $3 a pop. We also... More

Went to this restaurant last night to get a to-go order of sushi. While we were waiting I ordered the tuna boat; which was crab salad wrapped in tuna, topped with a raw quail egg. Words cannot describe how delicious it really was. I will be returning many times for that dish alone. When we ate the rest of our... More

Lots of great food from which to choose. Great prices and very friendly staff. Would probably eat here every week if we lived here. Great job guys.

Happy hour most of day with half off most of sushi rolls. Large servings. Lacking in service though- never had our water re-filled. Would recommend highly if you are looking for lots of sushi at bargain prices.

The sushi was just ok... Tempura was just deep fried, did not use the traditional tempura batter. Portions were HUGE, that was the only thing they had going. Service was good.

I went there after a visit to the Portland Zoo. We arrived there late afternoon with hungry kids. Everything we ordered was great. The sushi was served family style on a large platter. Our 5 year old loved their octopus and everyone was pleased with dinner.

This is what a good Japanese restaurant should be: good food at reasonable prices. We especially like the tempura with asian salads. The service is fast and friendly and the corner setting is open and airy. This part of Northwest Portland is a happening place and this grill fits right in. The only down side is that parking can be... More
