I've been hearing about it for years, but just got to this charmer - at last! The atmosphere is welcoming - almost old-world, with understated decor and an upstairs balcony. My companion and I both fell for the Prix Fixe menu ($25 for a choice of starters, chef's special and any dessert). She had butter lettuce served on a bed... More

Little Bird Bistro is a standout. Shabby but chic, incredible service, delicious food...a true star of the Portland food scene. The menu is accessible French bistro, but so incredibly prepared that you almost forget you are in the US and not France. We stuck to basics - oysters, salad, and the oh-so-unforgettable burger - very standard bistro fare, and yet... More

It was a very warm (in the mid 80s) early evening in Portland and therefore we opted not to eat outside on their very small, somewhat traffic noisy, sidewalk eating area. Instead, we were the only folks in the small dining room with the open kitchen facing us. It got warm in there too but it was fun to watch... More

When people rave about the food culture in Portland, this is the kind of place that they are talking about. What makes Little Bird special is that it is a small , trendy restaurant, with great food which is actually located in downtown Portland. Many of the best small restaurants are located in neighborhoods far from downtown with much lower... More

Make reservations for two nights so you can go back and try more options during your visit to Portland. It's a gorgeous setting too. Service is friendly and not at all pretentious. Try a cocktail, the burger, goat chees gnocchi, and the duck hand pies.

We had the tasting menu with the wine pairing, all delicious! Also enjoyed some excellent cider. Oddly enough, we had the same experience mentioned by another recent reviewer: waitress pouring water into glasses containing other beverages. Maybe it's so dark that even the staff can't tell what you're drinking? Also, when we had a few questions about some of the... More

I asked the waiter for a surprise and I was everything but disappointed : the turnovers were fantastic! The service was fast, professional, kind and attentive. Beware when you ask for a glass of wine. Up to 4 times the price of a bottle (in France).

We stayed Friday 10/24/2014. The food was ok. I ordered the Rabbit. Veggie was very salty. Rabbit meat was very dry. The bread was ok. The restaurant is too dark for me. Need more lighting. But maybe it is good for romantic outing. But for family outing, can't see the menu. Had to use flashlight to see the menu. The... More

I had always wanted to go to a Gabriel Rucker restaurant in Portland but had heard tables were communal at Le Pigeon - its more formal outlet - so chose Little Bird instead. Boy, are we glad we did. It's UBER amazing! Started with the best foie gras torchon I've ever had (besides Eleven Madison Park's cocoa-swirled FG Torchon, a... More

We were on our last night in Oregon, flight out in the morning. I chose Little Bird as our only Portland restaurant dinner and was so happy with my choice. I mentioned that we would be eating there earlier in the day to a few people who live in Portland and their comments built up my expectations. The tables are... More
