Date Night on Alberta

Went to Aviary having read primarily very good reviews. We sat at the Chef's Table which turned out to be a neutral choice. There is a very high counter that blocks the diner's view of the kitchen so unfortunately the only thing you get to see are piles of books. We shared cocktails which were... read more

We've been meaning to try Aviary for awhile, and now I'm sorry it took us so long to visit this neighborhood gem of a restaurant. Our server was excellent, helpful and friendly. He was our "guide" to the menu and portion sizes and was able to describe each dish in a way we could almost taste his words. The drinks... More

We had a great experience for dinner. It has been a couple of years my last visit. But I wanted to take a good friend out this trip to Portland and I did not regret taking her here. Firstly, our server was excellent: very helpful, friendly, and great attitude. I wish I remembered his name, but he was knowledgeable about... More

Creative, fun, and noteworthy. As it was my first time in, I went with the recommendations of my waitress; for my appetizer, the newly added sea urchin, and for my entrée, the coconut rice with fried pork ear, Japanese sausage, and fresh greens and herbs, and to finish the meal, pear bread pudding. All for $35 Thoroughly enjoyed every bit... More

I went twice during Happy Hour. The wine selection was really good (& I am a little picky), the food was really good & Ross, the bartender, was exactly what/who a bartender should be. And if you go solo, as I did, being able to play solitaire is a plus!

Ordered: Crispy pork belly, Tasmanian Sea Trout, Chocolate Pudding with Mango & Warm Toasted Almond Cake I've never been a fan of Asian fusion as it never seems to work. I noticed in alot of dishes here there were either alot of Asian ingredients cooked asian style or not. I'm not sure were the fusion went in all the other... More

My wife, my son, and friend joined me for a meal at this excellent restaurant recently. They have a spectacular beet and asparagus salad and a green bean tempura appetizer for starters. The octopus main course is superb, but the steak is also pretty terrific. Dessert was also good.

I really wanted to love Aviary, but unfortunately, it just wasn't for me. My small group ordered the sweetbreads, slow poached egg, beet and asparagus salad, crispy pork belly, octopus, venison, and NY strip steak. Out of those dishes, the poached egg, beet salad, and octopus were quite delicious, while the rest fell flat. The venison and steak were the... More

While visiting Portland recently, we shared a lovely meal with friends at Aviary. The food was modern, fresh and delicious. The decor of the restaurant was a little stark. Some artwork would be nice! Everything we ate was wonderful and service was warm and friendly.

We took my brother visiting from out of town so he could experience the Portland foodie scene. (I'd been to Aviary once before and thought it would be a good choice for that.) The prices are reasonable for the quality of the food. If you like spicy food that hits you over the head, this is not the place for... More
