Really interesting food - definitely going back!

Had appetizers and happy hour drinks and ended up hanging out for almost 3 hours. Just a really cool, eclectic place. Almost not eclectic in Portland because there seem to be so many great places like this. This whole Alberta neighborhood is brimming with great places.

extremely creative and delicate handling of a diverse range of flavors, impressive range of influences, mostly Asian but also local, with enough lightness of spirit not to come across as pretentious. standouts were the prawns, beet and lemongrass soup - truly inspired- and sole brioche. we didn't like the tofu - too much going on- but otherwise everything was just... Good food in a sadly lackluster boring setting. Everything we had for dinner was quite good, but the setting wasn't up to the quality of the food. The outdoor seating area looked as if it could have been thrown together for a hamburger joint and the inside showed zero effort to make it special. This detracted from the experience for... More

My first night in Portland and I'm staying in the NE section of town. Aviary was recommended by my airbnb host as a great place close to home. She was right, I really enjoyed dinner and interacting with the staff that were open and willing to give me suggestions on places to dine. The bar was dimly lit and placed... More

The culinary highlight of a quick NW trip. Will definitely return when in that part of the world again. A smart wine list & service that makes it happen without getting in the way, a good idea as the dishes are the main feature. We enjoyed crispy pigs ears - who knew!! - Berber spiced phyllo with prawns and an... More

This is a great restaurant with an ever-changing menu that reflects the seasonality of the region and the chefs creativity. This season includes an heirloom tomato salad and prawn salad that are beyond compare. The crispy pigs ear is another great addition. The usual favorites, like the grilled octopus, are a stand by favorite. Small plates, intended to be shared.... More

Nestled in an architecturally diverting series of rooms on trendy Alberta Street, the Aviary serves an interesting combo of dishes, with bold flavors and ingredients. Our party shared happily. That said, it is not a good scene for one of us with multiple food allergies (allotted to largely bread and water for her). Also, the servers seemed to lose interest... More

First time at this restaurant, and what a surprise--it was like French-Asian fusion and the server was extremely patient and informative on the ingredients and was also able to recommend wine/beer. Some of the best service we have received---and the mashed potatoes were sublime--I had some for dessert, they were that good!

Visited this restaurant on a saturday night with my wife while visiting portland. We had a reservation but didn't really need it as the restaurant was not busy at the time we visited. Restaurant featured an amazing menu with all sorts of delicious things we wanted to try. We started off with a Beet salad and a Shrimp Cucumber salad... More

If you are just a little adventurous, if you rate effort over trendy, if you are not looking for Meat and potatoes with green beans try my favorite place that being Aviary. I have been there countless times (at least 15) and never have left without being completely satisfied. Now, have there been surprises? Good ones. My latest trip was... More
