Good meal at dining month

My food was good but not great. My salmon was a little burned on the skin and the dungeness crab chawanmushi with bone marrow, sea urchin, asian pear, snap peas and truffle vinaigrette was one of the most inventive dished I have ever tried. The food is inventive and playful. Small portions but very... read more

A very trendy restaurant in the new upcoming area of Alberta. We got late dinner reservations and went there as a foursome. Overall the food was delicious, service was good but no changes from anything on the menu, fair enough from the chef, but leaving a hot sauce off something due to a customers request is not going to ruin... The food gets the 5 stars. Atmosphere is average Portland. All 6 dishes on the $29 March Dining menu were attractively served, tasted superb, and were on the regular menu. Our beers were reasonably priced ($5 pints). Portions were sensibly sized. I would never have paired cauliflower with salmon, but it worked extremely well. The kitchen let all the ingredients... We had high hopes for this well reviewed little restaurant on Alberta. No such luck last night feasting on Portland dining month special fixed menu. Definitely for the adventurous, the Asian fusion menu is not for everybody. The chawanmushi although tasty, sans the sea urchin, was served warm and very gelatinous. Didn't set up my stomach for the other 2... More

Went to Aviary having read primarily very good reviews. We sat at the Chef's Table which turned out to be a neutral choice. There is a very high counter that blocks the diner's view of the kitchen so unfortunately the only thing you get to see are piles of books. We shared cocktails which were pretty good and five plates.... More

We've been meaning to try Aviary for awhile, and now I'm sorry it took us so long to visit this neighborhood gem of a restaurant. Our server was excellent, helpful and friendly. He was our "guide" to the menu and portion sizes and was able to describe each dish in a way we could almost taste his words. The drinks... More

We had a great experience for dinner. It has been a couple of years my last visit. But I wanted to take a good friend out this trip to Portland and I did not regret taking her here. Firstly, our server was excellent: very helpful, friendly, and great attitude. I wish I remembered his name, but he was knowledgeable about... More

Creative, fun, and noteworthy. As it was my first time in, I went with the recommendations of my waitress; for my appetizer, the newly added sea urchin, and for my entrée, the coconut rice with fried pork ear, Japanese sausage, and fresh greens and herbs, and to finish the meal, pear bread pudding. All for $35 Thoroughly enjoyed every bit... More

I went twice during Happy Hour. The wine selection was really good (& I am a little picky), the food was really good & Ross, the bartender, was exactly what/who a bartender should be. And if you go solo, as I did, being able to play solitaire is a plus!

Ordered: Crispy pork belly, Tasmanian Sea Trout, Chocolate Pudding with Mango & Warm Toasted Almond Cake I've never been a fan of Asian fusion as it never seems to work. I noticed in alot of dishes here there were either alot of Asian ingredients cooked asian style or not. I'm not sure were the fusion went in all the other... More
