Was in PDX visiting family and took the advice of both my brother and Chef Feed to visit Gruner. Great little spot on 527 SW 12th with a bavarian profile. The Gruner Salad is recommended as is the Tarte Flambee with a glass of cider. Lunch was really well prepared with clean fresh flavors and perfectly attentive service. I'd love... More

Saw this near our hotel. Noted very good reviews (Alpine food!). Very friendly reception. Decor a bit spare and modern, but comfortable. Excellent food and service. Had Choucroute garni; very German/Swiss and very tasty. Overall good enough for 5th star; our favorite in Portland.

Attentive service, delicious food: tasty choucroute (Portland style), light and piquant roasted tomato soup, fresh kale, freekeh, etc. salad.

A modern atmosphere with great service made dinner enjoyable. We shared deviled red beet eggs, which reminded us of the red beet eggs my grandmothers made. I had a blackberry-lime soda that wasn't sweet, which was refreshing. We had gruner salads, endive salad, basil ricotta dumplings, and two desserts. The desserts were lemon blackberry cake and a layered cake that... More

My son had been there for lunch and wanted to try dinner. The staff seemed overwhelmed on a busy Saturday night, and while the food was good, we felt it a bit overpriced.

Great Food with an 'upscale' twist...! At every turn there was a great surprise with fresh ingredients and an obviously classically trained chef in the kitchen. The Bratwurst is made in-house, the mustard was made in-house, and the potatoes were almost a perfect tourneau...! I was very impressed with the quality and training of this Chef... If you like good... More

All I can say is that it was a good thing I went with a close friend I hadn't seen in awhile. We had lots of catching up to do so the super slow service wasn't completely frustrating. We enjoyed the ambience, the menu was interesting and the food was good but one poor waiter looked to be taking care... More

My husband and I were looking for lunch in the area and stumbled across Gruner. I'm a sucker for some spaetzle, but it was clear from the aesthetic of the place that we wouldn't be getting your stereotypical German fare here. I did, in fact, have the spaetzle, which had veggies, mushrooms, and ham in it, and I loved it... More

Went with a group after work. Very average meal, but I was the only vegetarian in the group. If you are a vegetarian you really should look elsewhere - the salad was underwhelming and the appetizers I had were tasteless (dumplings). Best thing I ate that night was the pretzel roll. Even the Almond Cake with Blueberries was disappointing.
