burger from heaven

There are burgers and then there are amazing burgers. Bruner's is the best burger in Portland, and possibly in the NW. We enjoyed our meal at Grüner, I was so looking forward coming from Switzerland and being German I just couldn't wait to get some food 'from home'. The service was good and the wine list was wonderful!! Some of the flavors we a bit unexpected but were good, so it wasn't as traditional as I expected but took the goodness... More

We went to Kask first for a cocktail. Cocktails were delicious but service is a little slow. Decided at the last minute to eat at Gruner. Put our name in and enjoyed our cocktail. They come to the bar to get you. The good was good at Gruner, my sausage was a bit dried out but all the other items... More

My husband and I visited this restaurant during our stay in Portland in January. We were pleasantly surprised that their liquor selection included Becherovka. The service was excellent and so were the main courses and desserts. The only thing that I wish they had was a better variety of wine by glass - no malbec or merlot to go with... More

Really nice to see a restaurant like this, though Portland is a place where I would expect it. There is a good selection of real alpine dishes and the wine list is quite representative of the whole alpine region with Austrian, German, Italian and French offerings, though wine prices are a bit steep.

Went to Gruner for the first time last night, and am glad I went, but there are a few things about the place that could use some attention. Gruner is visually appealing to those seeking the sleek, modern Berlin or Frankfurt style - it is attached to a German bar named "Kask". Tempted by an on-line menu that indicated one... More

We took advantage of a Gruner gift card so we stopped in for dinner on a Friday night. I will be right up front - the place is very cramped, there is no privacy and it is very loud. The food was very good - but it took close to an hour to receive it. If we visit again, it... More

I do like this restaurant, but the menu at times can seem a little confused. There is often a blend of German and French influences in the menu that sometimes do not translate all that well. Overall, the food is good the multiple times we have been there. The service is adequate, but can be a little cold and disingenuous... More

The salmon salad is quite good with great roasted beets. Lovely soups as well. Great use of herbs in most of their dishes. Subtle.
