Europe in Portland

we love the food here. We lived in Germany for 5 years and love schnitzel, potato salad, rosti, etc.Swiss Hibiscus does an excellent job with all of these dishes. It is the best European food we have found in Portland.

I decided to have a 5 meal course here. Good reviews, small place (please do reserve a table before come) and I love European food (but English, of course). They offered me fresh baked crunchy bread and two kinds of spicy sauces as a courtesy. Great start: slices were yummy. Then I had the the Swiss rosti topped with raclete... More

What a fun and tasty treat this was to find as we had a day to fiddle around in Portland. We were checking out Portlandia sites and needed a bite to eat. We happened upon this place during a time when the owner's parents were visiting from Hawaii and there were special items on the menu. If only we had... More

The owners ran the place, they were very accommodating. The food was not so good though. :( Their snitzels were not as crisp, their apple strudel was more like pie crust base.

Swiss Hibiscus (formerly Cafe Hibiscus) is an authentic Swiss culinary experience. On a recent visit to Portland to see my son, I wondered if there were a true Swiss restaurant where we could celebrate Swiss Independence Day, August 1. As Portland is the new foodie capital of the country, lo and behold, there was Swiss Hibiscus. Being of Swiss heritage,... More

Don't do as we did - drive miles to get here, then find it's closed until the end of September!! Looks like a nice place though, so will try again if/when we're next in the area.

If you want to relax and eat great food here's the place to be. Would recommend the goulash with the hash brown and escargot :) don't forget the onion soup. Fantastic service! Would definitely come here again! Too bad the only coffee they had was French press... Some like it but not really a fan of it.

My girlfriend recommend this restaurant, and we were delighted. Price is reasonable, great service and excellent food. We were lucky enough to go on a night when owner Jenny's parents were helping out from Hawaii where they had a restaurant. Dad is Swiss and mom Hawaiian. A nice little neighborhood gem!

If you love German food, don't miss this place. Everything was home made, and the spaetzle was delicious. The pork Wiener schnitzel and goulash were to die for--we were all practically licking our plates. And the salad dressing--which they make on site--was unique and fabulous. There are only five tables inside and three outside--they had a sign posted that they... More
