Great great gelato! Creamy and very flavorful. I tasted 3 kinds before settling on the salted caramel with the dark chocolate. I had a 'single' in a cone and the portion was huge. My daughter had peanut butter and it was excellent. There was no line at 3 in the afternoon, and the woman behind the counter was helpful and... More

We live in the neighborhood, and have been making regular trips on hot summer nights to Alotto Gelato for several years. The gelato there is quite good, and there's no need to stand in a ridiculously long line to get it. Portion sizes are perfectly adequate. If you like gelato (and not everyone does -- it is made with milk,... More

Ok, so Salt and Straw had a line wrapped around the building. It was hot and humid, so we all wanted ice cream. When I spotted the gelato place I was saying 'score'! Short line, and everyone knows Gelato is far superior to regular ice cream. But after trying 4 flavors that were very mediocre I decided on Coffee, because... More

Had out of town guests and walked over to 23rd for desert. Salt & Straw had a line down the street, so decided to try Alotto Gelato. My wife had heard the owner on the radio talk about how he started making gelato as a hobby and that had lead to the business on 23rd. All four of us had... More

We have to restrain ourselves from Alotto Gelato. We would go there every day if we weren't trying to eat a low sugar diet and lose weight. We have travelled all over the world including 5 times to Italy, where you find THE best gelato. But here in Portland, Alotto Gelato will not disappoint you. The fruit flavors are excellent,... We actually stopped by here as a secondary choice to the Salt and Straw down the street which is nearly impossible to get into. It was our first night in town and we were searching for a dessert spot. S&S had a line like a Hollywood Premiere (What's in it?) so we strolled down the street to this place and... More

No wonder this establishment is empty as opposed to Salt and Straw which has anywhere from 10-20 people in line at any given time (they are just up the street - go there!). I've been going to Allotto for a long time, but not recently. Until today. I ordered 'a little' which is 2 scoops for $4. It looked like... More

This place has many delicious flavors of italian gelato. It is a small place on 23rd St. in Nob Hill area near Lovejoy with a few tables for outside seating. Their cappucino is authentic tasting and goes well with the gelato, a fine way to add to the enjoyment of strolling along this interesting street.

Because the three times we tried to get gelato from nearby Salt & Straw but were discouraged due to the massive line, we opted for Alotto Gelato where there was no wait. The flavor choices were mildly engaging, but both the gelatos we ordered (in addition to the two samples we tasted) were very icy (more like ice milk) and... More

This small, but charming, shop is my favorite after-dinner stop in Portland. They have some of the best gelato i've tasted outside of Italy. Two scoops for $4 - well worth the price. There are seasonal varieties, but I love the salted caramel and mint chocolate chip. The hazelnut and blood orange are also outstanding! They aren't open in the... More
