Ok, so Salt and Straw had a line wrapped around the building. It was hot and humid, so we all wanted ice cream. When I spotted the gelato place I was saying 'score'! Short line, and everyone knows Gelato is far superior to regular ice cream. But after trying 4 flavors that were very mediocre I decided on Coffee, because... More

Had out of town guests and walked over to 23rd for desert. Salt & Straw had a line down the street, so decided to try Alotto Gelato. My wife had heard the owner on the radio talk about how he started making gelato as a hobby and that had lead to the business on 23rd. All four of us had... More

We have to restrain ourselves from Alotto Gelato. We would go there every day if we weren't trying to eat a low sugar diet and lose weight. We have travelled all over the world including 5 times to Italy, where you find THE best gelato. But here in Portland, Alotto Gelato will not disappoint you. The fruit flavors are excellent,... More

We actually stopped by here as a secondary choice to the Salt and Straw down the street which is nearly impossible to get into. It was our first night in town and we were searching for a dessert spot. S&S had a line like a Hollywood Premiere (What's in it?) so we strolled down the street to this place and... More

No wonder this establishment is empty as opposed to Salt and Straw which has anywhere from 10-20 people in line at any given time (they are just up the street - go there!). I've been going to Allotto for a long time, but not recently. Until today. I ordered 'a little' which is 2 scoops for $4. It looked like... More

This place has many delicious flavors of italian gelato. It is a small place on 23rd St. in Nob Hill area near Lovejoy with a few tables for outside seating. Their cappucino is authentic tasting and goes well with the gelato, a fine way to add to the enjoyment of strolling along this interesting street.

Because the three times we tried to get gelato from nearby Salt & Straw but were discouraged due to the massive line, we opted for Alotto Gelato where there was no wait. The flavor choices were mildly engaging, but both the gelatos we ordered (in addition to the two samples we tasted) were very icy (more like ice milk) and... More

This small, but charming, shop is my favorite after-dinner stop in Portland. They have some of the best gelato i've tasted outside of Italy. Two scoops for $4 - well worth the price. There are seasonal varieties, but I love the salted caramel and mint chocolate chip. The hazelnut and blood orange are also outstanding! They aren't open in the... More

Very good gelato, but I personally prefer Mio Gelato because they have Italian hot chocolate in mugs as big as my head (slight exaggeration, but not much). If you are only craving gelato, then by all means get some here. Far & away superior to what Costco claims to sell as gelato.

When I'm in Portland, I have to stop in at Alotto Gelato at least once. If you choose the small bowl, you get your choice of two scoops of gelato for around $4. With the larger bowls you get more scoops for a little bit more. They have a whole range of flavors including,Rose, Blackberry Swirl, Blackberry Sorbet, Expresso, Green... More
