Departure Restaurant is located atop the Nines Hotel and offers modern Asian cuisine in a sleek, cosmopolitan setting with two outdoor decks and stunning views of the city, mountains and river. Chef de Cuisine Gregory Gourdet creates traditional Asian preparations with Northwest ingredients in signature dishes such as the restaurant’s grilled kushiyaki selections, Indonesian spiced chicken and maguro karai honey sushi rolls. Departure’s bar showcases exotic cocktails, a global wine list and the city’s largest sake list. The saké and shochu list is one of the largest in the city and represents many hand-crafted, artisan producers. Departure boasts the design skills of Jeff Kovel of Skylab Architecture, one of Portland’s leading architectural firms. The overall design of the 9,000 square-foot space added a new full-level 15th floor to the original 1908 Meier & Frank building and two new rooftop patios with views overlooking downtown Portland, the Willamette River, Mt .Hood and Mount St. Helens. The design elements play off the notion of an urban escape.

Excellent Food with a "Gossip Girl" Vibe

It's been a long time since my husband and I and our two friends stayed out late, much less have a night out in Portland. There aren't too many opportunities to do so when you live 2 hours away and have 3 year old boys at home. But last night we were celebrating our friend's graduation so we were... read more

This was just an amazing evening with our family. Rainy night, but the views and the pictures of this night were spectacular. The food was delicious and wait staff top notch. Highly recommend an evening here for dinner. Would have been better if the outside decks were open. Jim and Linda Munro Korner Kottage B & B Suttons Bay, MI

This was our first stop for cocktails in the city. It almost doesn't matter what you drink, as the rooftop lounge is such a great place to be to take in the city, surrounding mountains, and an occasional protest march in the streets below. I had a pomegranate martini, and my friend had a raspberry stoli - both were made... More

I had a couple of Crazy 88, a very nice tropical cocktail with mango and grape fruit juice some strong booze that I really liked and enjoyed. The appetizers were delicious! This restaurant must be independently owned and operated without any association with The nines hotel!!!! why, this restaurant is actually very good, while food at Nine hotel SUX!

This is an elegant and inviting space.. very chic and open on the top floor of the Nines hotel. The waitstaff is excellent and very knowledgeable about the food they are serving. The stir fry prawns were excellent... as was the carrot salad appetizer ..scallops were so tasty! there is a lot of thought that has gone into the menu..... More

First of the many restaurants I visited on trip to help sis move. Appreciated the smaller portions and still dreaming about the Miso Cod...cannot wait to return.

We loved it but the service was slow. The chicken wings were beyond good. So full of flavor and fun to eat too. You need to pick numerous small dishes. We enjoyed the miso cod. Not a $200 evening for two but worth a one time visit.

Definitely a different kind of atmosphere than what I expected from a restaurant in Portland. But the food was amazing. The service was great and the view was second to none.

What a cool place. Been there for late drinks with friends, with a view from the city and delicious food. They offer a very modern menu. Forget your normal stuff, open your mind and come enjoy this place.

My hubby and I went here on a date night. It was really nice. The drinks and the place are very upscale. It is located on the top floor of a hotel. the bartenders are very knowledgeable and don't have an attitude if you ask about drink suggestions. My bartender suggested the French 75. Wow, it was delish!!! We also... More
