Departure Restaurant is located atop the Nines Hotel and offers modern Asian cuisine in a sleek, cosmopolitan setting with two outdoor decks and stunning views of the city, mountains and river. Chef de Cuisine Gregory Gourdet creates traditional Asian preparations with Northwest ingredients in signature dishes such as the restaurant’s grilled kushiyaki selections, Indonesian spiced chicken and maguro karai honey sushi rolls. Departure’s bar showcases exotic cocktails, a global wine list and the city’s largest sake list. The saké and shochu list is one of the largest in the city and represents many hand-crafted, artisan producers. Departure boasts the design skills of Jeff Kovel of Skylab Architecture, one of Portland’s leading architectural firms. The overall design of the 9,000 square-foot space added a new full-level 15th floor to the original 1908 Meier & Frank building and two new rooftop patios with views overlooking downtown Portland, the Willamette River, Mt .Hood and Mount St. Helens. The design elements play off the notion of an urban escape.

a solid choice

Way too hot on the terrace (in Portland in May). Quite pleasant inside, but unfortunately missing the fantastic view. The dishes were fairly standard, but overall a nice evening.

My husband and I came here with the intention of enjoying cocktails before dinner at the bar. There was a big chaos on the street so we decided to stay and managed to get a seat at the outdoor balcony over looking the Portland City. Great view. The food was excellent! The Grill Cod marinated in Miso was amazing and... More

Took a chance and showed up at Departures with some friends last Thursday. Although part of the lounge was closed for a private function, the remaining outdoor section was open, and we were allowed to have happy hour there. The waiter was so accommodating. The cocktails and food were excellent, especially the shrimp. The weather was lovely and we were... More

Came here with my sister and best friend for a girls night. The open seating outside was all full but we were able to get a table that faced towards outside (although not close enough for a view). I have been here for dinner once before and for happy hour many times. We all ordered several dishes to share and... More

Beautiful views with fresh air, hip, comfortable crowd. Reasonable prices and excellent appetizers for Happy Hour were a real treat vs. quick fried junk offered elsewhere. Clean Classy staff offered prompt service and a positive attitude. This is an excellent experience and the hotel offers other venues for dining that are worth experiencing.

I traveled to Portland over a weekend to visit with my daughter who shared Departure (one of her favorite restaurants) with me. What a treat! The service was impeccable, the food outstanding and the view spectacular! With a reservation we were seated and serviced immediately. No detail was left undone during our meal. Our waitress Sarah provided us the most... More

We made a reservation a couple of weeks prior to our visit to Portland. We had high expectations and we were not disappointed. Everything that we ate was amazing (Depature wings, pork belly, etc.) Our waitress (Katie) was one of the best I've had. The price was very reasonable. I will be back!

This was just an amazing evening with our family. Rainy night, but the views and the pictures of this night were spectacular. The food was delicious and wait staff top notch. Highly recommend an evening here for dinner. Would have been better if the outside decks were open. Jim and Linda Munro Korner Kottage B & B Suttons Bay, MI

This was our first stop for cocktails in the city. It almost doesn't matter what you drink, as the rooftop lounge is such a great place to be to take in the city, surrounding mountains, and an occasional protest march in the streets below. I had a pomegranate martini, and my friend had a raspberry stoli - both were made... More

It's been a long time since my husband and I and our two friends stayed out late, much less have a night out in Portland. There aren't too many opportunities to do so when you live 2 hours away and have 3 year old boys at home. But last night we were celebrating our friend's graduation so we were looking... More
