Description: Urban Farmer redefines the modern steakhouse with an emphasis on Northwest, sustainable ingredients and simple, straightforward preparations within a farmer chic environment. The menu honors national and local culinary traditions sourcing ingredients from some of the Northwest’s finest eco-friendly producers like Sudan Farms, Wooden Bridge, Nicky Farms, and Cattail Creek. Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, weekend brunch and happy hour, Urban Farmer remains a reliable and approachable destination amidst Portland’s bustling food scene.Designer David Ashen of D-ASH Design in New York created a unique restaurant space within the 8th floor atrium lobby of the Nines Hotel. The space makes use of organic, reclaimed and modern materials such as a 20-foot communal table sourced from an old-growth Douglas Fir. The spacious “Deck” captures the light-hearted feel of outdoor dining and is accented by a field of wheat grass in the center of the room. A video installation by one of Portland’s favorite experimental artists, Matt McCormick, rolls stunning images of the city’s rural and urban landscapes. The “Pantry” offers an intimate setting with walls of steel and reclaimed timber, as well as shelves stacked with vibrant jars of pickled fruits and vegetables. The Library , adjacent to Urban Farmer in the lobby, is the ideal venue for guests to host private parties, play a game of pool or enjoy a quiet cocktail.

Great dining experience! 1st time and will go back! Cheese selection was phenomenal, served with local honey and jams, not to mention great presentation. Local salad was great with toasted quinoa and a honey vinaigrette dressing and the best cornbread from a can that I've ever had. The steaks were cooked to perfection with great flavor and from local farms... More

We just visited Portland to celebrate my 50th birthday for the weekend. We wanted to use SPG points to stay at The Nines but ended up not having enough points, so we stayed at the Westin. I remembered many of the reviews of The Nines mentioned enjoying the Urban Farmer. Because of this, we made reservations there on the night... More

I would not eat here for dinner but for their happy hour menu it was worth it. Small plates, small prices and relatively tasteful items. The chicken pops were yummy yet spicy, the slider was nothing special, the corn bread was very good. Nice kids menu. Good service.

Excellent steak house in the middle of the Nines-Hotel in Portland. Good variety of cuts and non-meat alternatives. Service polished and refined. I had the dry-aged sirloin and it was cooked a perfect medium-rare. Downsides - the wine-by-the-glass options are limited. It is expensive - whilst the food and service is good, I'm not sure that it justifies the price.... More

The restaurant is in the middle of the hotel so there are no great views of the city. However, the service and food are fantastic and Urban Farmer should not be missed. The chef is very in tune with fresh food and it is shown through their menu. The meat/cheese platters are do die for. The salads are fresh with... More

Ok, I see "Urban Farmer" in Portland and I think vegetarian. Not here. It's all beef at this spot. (Ok, there are a few other options) The variety of steaks is vast. The menu is separated by cut with 3-4 options per cut. Grass fed, grain fed, corn fed, dry aged, boneless, bone in etc. I had a dry aged... More

We walked out. We rarely do that. We didn't eat the food so maybe it was delicious, but the prices seemed outrageous! This isn't an upscale venue. They transformed the spacious interior (no views even though you are on a high floor of the hotel) into a pretty space, but nothing that special. The hostesses were friendly but the wait... More

We decided to stop by on a Saturday as heard all sorts of wonderful things and "you can't miss their happy hour"type comments. Hmmmm, ultra sheik, trendy place to be seen. After a day at the organic brewfest I could care less whether I wanna be seen or be spotted for that matter. Food choices offer beef, pork, chicken, and... More
