Description: Urban Farmer redefines the modern steakhouse with an emphasis on Northwest, sustainable ingredients and simple, straightforward preparations within a farmer chic environment. The menu honors national and local culinary traditions sourcing ingredients from some of the Northwest’s finest eco-friendly producers like Sudan Farms, Wooden Bridge, Nicky Farms, and Cattail Creek. Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, weekend brunch and happy hour, Urban Farmer remains a reliable and approachable destination amidst Portland’s bustling food scene.Designer David Ashen of D-ASH Design in New York created a unique restaurant space within the 8th floor atrium lobby of the Nines Hotel. The space makes use of organic, reclaimed and modern materials such as a 20-foot communal table sourced from an old-growth Douglas Fir. The spacious “Deck” captures the light-hearted feel of outdoor dining and is accented by a field of wheat grass in the center of the room. A video installation by one of Portland’s favorite experimental artists, Matt McCormick, rolls stunning images of the city’s rural and urban landscapes. The “Pantry” offers an intimate setting with walls of steel and reclaimed timber, as well as shelves stacked with vibrant jars of pickled fruits and vegetables. The Library , adjacent to Urban Farmer in the lobby, is the ideal venue for guests to host private parties, play a game of pool or enjoy a quiet cocktail.

After walking aimlessly downtown i passed by THE NINES which is a 5 star hotel downtown where Urban Farmer is located. Unlike most hotel restaurants abroad where the retaurants I find are just plain over priced. This restaurant is not complacent about the quality of its food. The menu and cooking is comparable to the quality and attention to detail... More

This describes itself as a steak house and yes, it does have excellent beef including Wagyu, and it costs. However, the other food is what should be sampled as they really do have a good chef. The fois gras (from Canada apparently) was beyond excellent. A good ploy is to arrive for the Happy Hour menu around 17.30 and eat... More

Had dinner with my 14 year old daughter. Not the first time, we come here about every 6 months. Once again had an incredible dinner. We started with Raw Oysters and Urban Farmer always seems to have a great selection of local Oysters. Followed this with a cheese plate. My daughter loves cheese and has since she was very small.... Coffee was terrible. Breakfast good. Really overpriced and slow service. The bartenders really try to push the bloody mary bar which wasn't even good.

We ate breakfast here as guests of the hotel and it was fabulous! A late night light dinner of lobster bisque and the lovely cheese selection and plate prepared off the cheese cart was a treat! All the full meal dinner plates around us on the surrounding tables looked wonderful. This is a great choice for either meal.

The food reigns supreme here, flawless preparation of almost everything and perfectly done. I like the commitment to local and sustainable, some of it coming from their roof top garden. We tried the halibut, ahi tuna and the mixed grill, all were delicious. We also had the grits and the greens, the grits were very good and different but the... More

I like the local products and the atrium atmosphere. The house drinks are awesome and they have a wide variety of liquors.

We stayed three nights at The Nines. During our stay we stopped by the Urban Farmer for drinks and had lunch. The restaurant is located in the atrium area of the hotel which makes creating an intimate setting a challenge. The drink menu is creative and the drinks well made. Our lunch was delicious. The menu offers lots of great... More

The Urban Farmer, located on the 8th floor of The Nines Hotel in Portland, was, far and above, the finest steakhouse I have ever had the pleasure of dining in. The Sous Chef has sourced all of the products from neighboring farms and ranches,so the taste and quality has unmistakably exceeded the normal, run-of-the-mill establishment. I have been spoiled forever!... More
