Description: Urban Farmer redefines the modern steakhouse with an emphasis on Northwest, sustainable ingredients and simple, straightforward preparations within a farmer chic environment. The menu honors national and local culinary traditions sourcing ingredients from some of the Northwest’s finest eco-friendly producers like Sudan Farms, Wooden Bridge, Nicky Farms, and Cattail Creek. Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, weekend brunch and happy hour, Urban Farmer remains a reliable and approachable destination amidst Portland’s bustling food scene.Designer David Ashen of D-ASH Design in New York created a unique restaurant space within the 8th floor atrium lobby of the Nines Hotel. The space makes use of organic, reclaimed and modern materials such as a 20-foot communal table sourced from an old-growth Douglas Fir. The spacious “Deck” captures the light-hearted feel of outdoor dining and is accented by a field of wheat grass in the center of the room. A video installation by one of Portland’s favorite experimental artists, Matt McCormick, rolls stunning images of the city’s rural and urban landscapes. The “Pantry” offers an intimate setting with walls of steel and reclaimed timber, as well as shelves stacked with vibrant jars of pickled fruits and vegetables. The Library , adjacent to Urban Farmer in the lobby, is the ideal venue for guests to host private parties, play a game of pool or enjoy a quiet cocktail.

In a city with over 3000 restaurants, it's a testament that we went back twice on our trip. We went for happy hour with our Portland friend, and had some appetizers, which were delicious. The drinks were well-poured and bartenders really friendly. Dinner another night was one of the best meals I can remember. The restaurant is located in a... More

I was on an awful business trip with awful company that just couldn't get along. We went to Sunday Brunch at Urban Farmer. We all sat down grumpy and silent. We hadn't been able to break the ice the whole trip. That was until our server Melody came over. She was wonderful. Her service was above and beyond what we... More

Our company does a lot of business with the Nines hotel, so decided for a change to finally go try out the much talked about and highly reviewed steakhouse - the Urban Farmer... for dinner. Everyone in my family is a foodie both my parents and grandparents gourmet chefs, (my sister and exec pastry chef, and i have earned my... More

We had dinner there last week--March 2014. Nice Happy Hour--prices not too bad. The service is somewhat slow--even though the place was half empty. Valet parking is available so you don't have to walk in the rain or find a parking place that can be a problem in downtown Portland. Around $10+ for parking. Nice ambience and decor. Another nice... I like a little flavor to the outside of my steak, and Urban Farmer gives you that. They have an extensive menu with steak that ranges from local different ranches to aged steaks, or to corn fed finished beef. Ambiance was good, staff was very good, the food was good also. Here is why they did not get a five... More

A work colleague recommended this restaurant, so when in Portland we went there for a special occasion. It is pricey, but not that unusual for a good steak house. The number of steak choices was impressive - It almost made me wish I ate steak. Those that did said it was excellent, and I can say the fish special was... More

Sloppy service from Patrick. Never brought my drink. Never stayed long enough to attend to our needs. Grabbed my small plate with cheese I was still eating and when I asked for it back--gave it to me with his thumb on the food!! Ruined the experience. With their prices, service should be tops!

We had our first dinner here on Valentines. If a restaurant can execute this well on a holiday it has to be amazing year round. It has been a happy hour and breakfast favorite over the past year for us. Now we can add dinner to our list!

Urban Farmer has a great breakfast menu, the house made English muffin and bacon biscuit was wonderful. The chicken cherry sausage are excellent. The Valentine's prefix menu was exciting, the oysters were great with a wonderful mignonette. The celery root soup and the New York steak with foraged mushroom risotto were all exceptional. The cornbread was too sweet, more like... More

Great location downtown, and what a sensation the building is! The restaurant is on the 8th floor and is an atrium going up to the 15th floor, so it feels very spacious. We were going to try some steaks but after seeing the prizes -and ALL side dishes including potato are separate!- and the fact they had no sauces, we... More
