Urban Farmer redefines the modern steakhouse with an emphasis on Northwest, sustainable ingredients and simple, straightforward preparations within a farmer chic environment. The menu honors national and local culinary traditions sourcing ingredients from some of the Northwest’s finest eco-friendly producers like Sudan Farms, Wooden Bridge, Nicky Farms, and Cattail Creek. Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, weekend brunch and happy hour, Urban Farmer remains a reliable and approachable destination amidst Portland’s bustling food scene.Designer David Ashen of D-ASH Design in New York created a unique restaurant space within the 8th floor atrium lobby of the Nines Hotel. The space makes use of organic, reclaimed and modern materials such as a 20-foot communal table sourced from an old-growth Douglas Fir. The spacious “Deck” captures the light-hearted feel of outdoor dining and is accented by a field of wheat grass in the center of the room. A video installation by one of Portland’s favorite experimental artists, Matt McCormick, rolls stunning images of the city’s rural and urban landscapes. The “Pantry” offers an intimate setting with walls of steel and reclaimed timber, as well as shelves stacked with vibrant jars of pickled fruits and vegetables. The Library , adjacent to Urban Farmer in the lobby, is the ideal venue for guests to host private parties, play a game of pool or enjoy a quiet cocktail.

Downtown and good

We were on the lookout for a place to eat by Pioneer Square in downtown Portland. We began with an impressive shared seafood platter which included lobster, skewered shrimp, raw oysters, and mussels. Cornbread baked in a can, was served with Kale and brussel sprout salad, followed by well prepared painted hills steak. The restaurant presented a wonderful, melt in your mouth, chocolate cake as a treat for our birthday "boy." Restaurant, located on the eighth... More

We were walking around downtown when we came upon this charming restaurant. Situated in the lobby area of a hotel, it was light and bright and open on a rainy dirppy day. We were there for brunch, and the food was ample and excellent, and the bloody mary's were among the best we've had. Deffinitely check Urban Farmer out ...... More

Hi Kevin A, Thanks so much for your brunch recommendation of Urban Farmer! We pride ourselves on our fabulous bloody mary bar, where you are able to choose a variety of vegetables we pickle in house and our candied bacon made by our very talented culinary team. If you're staying at the Nines or are even in the vicinity, the Urban Farmer is a must. Wonderful setting, intelligent staff and dessert to die for. The butterscotch graham cracker is devilishly good. Enjoy! Cheers, Ryan

This place is dad's treat when I come home for the holidays. The last time I was here, I was celebrating my 21st and man, was I happy. I always order the 16 oz t-bone because it's my favorite, and this is the only place that seems to be able to cook it exactly the way I like it! The... More

I haven't been disappointed by a meal here. Brunch, lunch, and dinner have been great. The service and location are also good. Unique atmosphere (in the middle of the Nines) is more comfortable than it initially appears.

We had a great time at this modern upscale steak house. We ate at a two top in the open courtyard. Despite the massive open space we could hear each other well and it felt cozy as a date should. We both tried a cut of Waygu beef, it was cooked medium rare to perfection and tasted delicious. I would... More

This is a great place for a special occasion. The menu has many different types of meat and some seafood. Our waiter did a great job explaining the different types of a single cut of beef, corn fed, grass fed, etc. I ordered a bone in ribeye. It was good but was not in the ballpark of another restaurant in... More

We chose to go to the Urban Farmer because of the great reviews however we left not impressed. We ordered the Wagu beef steaks expecting an outstanding steak, but these steaks were just ordinary. They had no seasoning and came totally A la carte. $50 for a hunk of meat on a plate. We did order salads, Brussels sprouts and... More

Had the Eggs Benedict for breakfast. Best Eggs Benny EVER! the shaved ham was amazing, homemade English Muffins, and perfectly poached eggs. The Hollandaise sauce was to die for. Pricey but completely worth it!
