Description: Urban Farmer redefines the modern steakhouse with an emphasis on Northwest, sustainable ingredients and simple, straightforward preparations within a farmer chic environment. The menu honors national and local culinary traditions sourcing ingredients from some of the Northwest’s finest eco-friendly producers like Sudan Farms, Wooden Bridge, Nicky Farms, and Cattail Creek. Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, weekend brunch and happy hour, Urban Farmer remains a reliable and approachable destination amidst Portland’s bustling food scene.Designer David Ashen of D-ASH Design in New York created a unique restaurant space within the 8th floor atrium lobby of the Nines Hotel. The space makes use of organic, reclaimed and modern materials such as a 20-foot communal table sourced from an old-growth Douglas Fir. The spacious “Deck” captures the light-hearted feel of outdoor dining and is accented by a field of wheat grass in the center of the room. A video installation by one of Portland’s favorite experimental artists, Matt McCormick, rolls stunning images of the city’s rural and urban landscapes. The “Pantry” offers an intimate setting with walls of steel and reclaimed timber, as well as shelves stacked with vibrant jars of pickled fruits and vegetables. The Library , adjacent to Urban Farmer in the lobby, is the ideal venue for guests to host private parties, play a game of pool or enjoy a quiet cocktail.

Delicious steak, sides were scrumptious, especially the grits and mac & cheese. Wine was nice (NxNW), service attentive and professional. Ambiance urban hip. A great spot for a business dinner. Pricey, but worth it.

Fantastic experience from start to finish. Varied and interesting menu, very good wine by the glass selection and loved the feeling of dining outside in the middle of winter. My dad was a butcher and I know steak. Mine was awesome and I could not quite eat it. We will be back, with friends!!

Our dinner was very good; we had New York steak sampler which we really liked along with the mashed potatoes and a shrimp appetizer. They have a very good selection of steaks along with nice appetizers and sides The restaurant itself is very nice, great location and the Nines Hotel is also quite nice. We will definitely come back and... More

And without a doubt the food and the service at The Urban Farmer is worth every penny...........! Great area near Pioneer Square located on the 8th floor of the Nines Hotel. The beautiful atrium setting creates a magnificent ambiance for dinning. Our group tried a little of everything from the Pacific & Atlantic Coast Oysters, Roasted Brussels Sprouts, Twice baked... We went here for dinner on New Years Eve. I had the 60 day dry aged steak, my husband had the 45 day dry aged steak. This was the best tasting steak I have ever had. It was worth every bit of the 60.00. My husband's was excellent just not as intense flavor as mine. The sides we had were... More

My son and I took my husband out to lunch for his birthday. We were pleasantly surprised to see the Gompers Creek cocktail on the menu made with our favorite Oregon distilled Gompers Gin. It was tasty and refreshing. We had the burgers on the house made English muffins and they were delicious as we're the crispy fries and the... More

Another huge benefit of staying at the Nines is the easy access to the Urban Farmer - the restaurant located on the 8th floor behind the main lobby. The cocktails are terrific, small bites delightful and the brunch is outstanding.

We'll get this right out of the way. The food, the meat especially, was excellent. Looking at reviews ahead of time we we dubious although first-hand comments from friends who've been swayed us to go. Let's just say this: My father-in-law said it was the best steak he's ever had in his 70 years (60-day dry aged bone-in NY) and... More

We had drinks and dinner at this restaurant one night, drinks on another night and breakfast one morning. It's in the center atrium of The Nines Hotel and is just beautiful. The food is excellent and the service was good.

Two friends and I decided to have our holiday gift exchange at this restaurant. I was apprehensive because it's located in a hotel, and my experience is that hotel restaurants are iffy. Well I was pleasantly surprised! The service was top notch, and the eggs Benedict (ham and beef) were incredible! The hollandaise was delicate and the home made English... More
