Non-dairy hot chocolate options at Cacao

We enjoyed stopping at Cacao while staying at The Heathman. The Cacao staff recommended handmade chocolate by cloudforest, which tasted even better with their amazingly decadent almond milk hot chocolate, perfect for non-dairy hot chocolate lovers.

If you like chocolate and not just grocery store chocolate, then you will love (L-O-V-E) this little shop. The staff are super knowledgeable about their chocolates, which come from a variety of vendors (some local). They also serve drinking chocolate, which is a wonderful warm way to enjoy chocolate. Browse, ask questions and have a nibble.

This is a pick up and go spot, unless you get one of the 4 bar seats. Don't be afraid - just go to the Heathman Hotel and pop into Cacao and ask for a cup of drinking chocolate - simply decadent. Not something I would have normally done, but had a sample on a foodie tour and then returned... More

I've reviewed my restaurant experience previously, and I feel it is important to let people know how delighted I was to receive chocolate to my door for Christmas. We visited Portland in October and visited Cacao for a sweet chocholate drink. We had also purchased a few chocolate bars - all artisan made in Portland - and devoured every decadent morsel... More

They have a wide variety of bars (white, dark chocolate), some with flavorings and some without from all over the world. What is interesting is that their chocolate is not Euro-centric. They do have some chocolate from Europe but also from Asian, Latin and Sourh American countries and other places. Next time I am in Portland I will try the... More

This was my first time having a drinkable chocolate. I started ordering their dark chocolate and it was like I was in heaven. After that I couldn't resist ordering the second cup, this time the cinnamon and one. It was totally worthwhile to get out of our original route just to experience a few minutes in heaven. I strongly recommend... More

After dinner, we went to Cocoa for dessert. As this was our first time, a repeat customer advised us to go for the 2oz cup as the chocolate can give you a real sugar buzz when you're not used to so much at once. Yummy!!! I could have had the 4oz, but was happy to stay reasonable. We had one... More

I had a shot of the regular and a shot of the cinnamon and both were delicious. The only way to describe this is it was like an oral orgasm. Needless to say I enjoyed the flavor and mouth feel. Good stop if you like quality chocolate drinks.

The chocolates here are really, really good. I would have rated it a "5" star but the atmosphere inside just felt a bit pretentious. For some reason that seems to be the vibe of many fine chocolate houses. Not sure why that is but it is. The actual floor space of this Cacao is pretty spacious with the actual display... More

I'm always on the hunt for a city's best chocolate. The chocolate I had on my visit here rank in my top 2. I think this may even tie for first. My husband and I shared a handful of artist crafted chocolates like ghost pepper caramel, salted lavender, ginger and raspberries. Each was delightful. The heat of the pepper caramel... More
