We had a bucket of steamed clams and some garlic bread, which we paired with some microbrew and wine. We ate in the bar, so I can not review the restaurant. The bar was down-home, friendly with good food. We would go back again the next time we are in Newport.

Ate on a very slow Monday night with the football game on even in the restaurant. This is a very laid back place where the locals go to eat, drink, and socialize. The cooks have been there for many years and have mastered the art of frying seafood. The bucket of mixed seafood was very good--non-greasy, not overly battered, crisp... More

This place calls itself a Sports Bar so went in on Saturday evening 9/20 to watch college football. With both local teams playing on TV it was from a patron standpoint expectedly busy. These games have been scheduled for that date with both having 7:30 start times for weeks so you would think they might anticipate it being busy and... More

My friend and her husband always go here on Tuesday night for the filet mignon special and she has even brought me all the way from Salem (well, we did do a spa day at Phagan's) to enjoy this special and both times it has been excellent. Tender cut of beef, great potato, and a nondescript salad. But for the... More

We sat upstairs, and it needs a good cleaning and some upkeep. The food was fine. My glass of beer had a fishy taste to it, like probably someone with fish on their hands had touched it. This was definitely not my favorite restaurant, but not the worst I've ever eaten in either. I'd suggest going elsewhere to eat when... More

We sat up on the balcony outside so we could catch the sunset and a meal. While we sat, the breeze blew in the smell propane from rooftop vents. We decided to bear it and order dinner. Chowder bowl was not warm. I may have tastes one clam. The Sandbar scampi was luke-warm/cold. Canned green beans were served as vegetable... More

We stumbled across Sandbar by accident, and we were so glad we did. What a fun place! We sat upstairs at a table by the window overlooking the ocean. I wanted some fresh seafood and this was the place. I ordered a bucket which came with shrimp, halibut, clams, scallops, and fries. It was delicious. So much food, I couldn't... More

We went here for dinner and I ordered the steam clams in a bucket. They were absolutely delicious! Their bread is really good too. We sat upstairs and enjoyed the nice hospitality of our waitress. No alcohol ordered, just a nice quiet dinner in a quaint place. Great experience!

I've reviewed the Sandbar & Grill before. But last night I had a half order of their steamer clams as an appetizer for the first time. Without a doubt they were the best clams I've ever had in a restaurant! The serving would have been plenty for two people to share, and the garlic butter for dipping was perfect. The... More
