A bit much

I love when I have the opportunity to eat at Subterra. The food is excellent (Martin is an amazing chef) the staff is friendly, attentive and professional. The selection and presentation are wonderful. I have been attending the Winter Supper Series for the last three years and have had so much pleasure trying new things and exploring new foods, for... We have been to this restaurant at least 8 times, and I love the atmosphere inside, but the food and service can be disappointing. The problem is that it can be a 2/3 or 5, that is why I gave them a 4. I have had the food be so salty I really couldn't eat it, and one night they... More

This place is a must when you are Newburg! We had a delightful experience. As you descend to the entrance of the cellar you are greeted by a surprising warm and inviting atmosphere. Everything on the menu sounded so amazing that it was a challenge to make a choice. I finally decided on the spicy black bean soup of the... More

If you want Manhattan polish and highbrow treatment, this is not the place. There are just enough little quirks to remind you it is an owner and chef putting effort, creativity and hard work into an interesting, unique and pleasant experience. An extensive and eclectic wine list for a place this size. Menu options very broad for what must be... More

I dropped down to the walkout level of this place. It has a charming atmosphere. The staff said they have been there for 5 years. I had goat cheese and mushroom puffs for about $5, and wonderful salmon spread with crackers for $4. I had a Shirley Temple for $4 as one drink was required. Nice place, and they offered... More

You know how there is food that is really good, like at a typical restaurant, and then there is food that is just above and beyond, with flavor layers and combinations that just make you pause? Well, Subterra is above and beyond. There is only one other restaurant with such elevated delicious and sophisticated flavors that my husband and I... More

Delicious appetizers and wine served in a quiet, romantic environment. I was unable to stay for dinner, but will visit again for a meal!

I was very acquainted with this place but never had the chance to stop by for a leisurely dinner. We were "wowed" with the entire experience. First the staff, warm and welcoming! Next was the great atmosphere created within the walls. Then the menu, absolutely terrific selection! We very much had a perfect evening in the delightful Newberg restaurant!

Dropped into Subterra for lunch after wine tasting at Dark Horse Wine Bar in Newberg. Very nice atmosphere. Lunch menu was very imaginative and diverse. The shaved ham with ementhaler cheese (warmed in the oven) was delicious. WInes were good too. Many thanks to Merle (the pearl) for great service and attention. I was warned this sandwich would take a... More
