My husband and I celebrated our anniversary last week at Subterra, and it was a real treat! It was a quiet Tuesday evening, but we were so happy to have found this charming hide-away restaurant. We started with an interesting and delicious cheddar/onion soup, arugula salad with a light champagne dressing and my husband's veal chop in an outstanding wine... More

We had eaten the previous night at the Jory Restaurant which was really good but rather pricey. We were looking for something a little more casual but with good food and we were not disappointed. It's a cozy place and although it lacks the Jory's great view the food was just as first class for about half the price. Each... More

We had dinner here one night. My husband had scallops with Asian succotash and thought it was perfect, the scallops done to perfection and not overlooked. I had chicken saltimbocca, which was also delicious. They have a nice wine list and very good desserts. Dinner comes with bread, choice of soup, a salad, and then your choice of main course.... More

Subterra is "subterra" which means it lacks windows, but that is about all it lacks. It is down a long flight of stairs, but has a wonderful, cozy atmosphere. The walls are painted with a vineyard mural, so it certainly doesn't feel like a dungeon. I have been there many times and have tried many of there selections. I have... More

My husband and I stopped in for lunch on our farewell tour of Newberg! I ordered the quiche of the day. It was the best quiche I have ever had! Very light and fluffy and I loved the cheese that was used in it! My husband ordered the Croque Monsieur. You can't go wrong with that! Our waitress was very... More

The fact that we wished we had gone back for a second time in lieu of another restaurant choice says it all. Being from South Florida, we are used to a la carte pricing for higher end cuisine. At Subterra, the meal included bread, salad, soup and main course for what we are used to being an entrée price. We... More

Excellent food, preparation, menu, and wine list. But. . . the service. A mix up with our reservation--made in advance--should have been caught by calling to reconfirm our reservation. Finished appetizer plates left uncleared even after three waitress visits. Then. . . being asked to take utensils off of "being cleared" plates to reuse--rather than giving clean utensils. The service... More

We are on our first visit to Oregon wine country and this was a recommendation from one of the wineries we visited. First they were open on a Monday which helped the decision. When we walked in, we were very pleased with the decor and friendliness of the staff. Since we are a couple who travel a lot, we usually... More

My husband and I celebrated his birthday at Subterra early on a Thursday evening. There were several people being served in the bar. No one else came in to the dining room for dinner. It was nice for us. He had short rib of beef and I had the potato wrapped halibut. Dinner came with an assortment of breads, butter... More

We were wanting a light dinner prior to an event at George Fox U. and this fit the bill perfectly. We were offered wines and special small plates during the 5-6 pm hour. And everything tasted wonderful. Roasted asparagus, goat cheese puffs, beef kabobs, and house salad. The wine was wonderful, too. "Whoa Nelly" white.
