We dined at Vali's tonight and their featured item was the grilled ribeye. It was cooked perfectly and tasted fantastic. It was served with a twice baked potato, ceasar salad and homeade dinner rolls. A perfect meal for a great price of only $18.00. I don't know how they do it. The service was great and the old world atmosphere... More

I was just at Vali's recently with some good friends for a little birthday celebration, and I have to say this small "mom and pop" place was absolutely charming! From the authentic Hungarian plates decorating the walls to the delicious cuisine, you can tell that love goes into everything these people do! Having recently returned from a lengthy European vacation,... More

Weinersnitzel was a "slab" of pork (not veal) half the size of the plate. Not very good truthfully, tough and dry. No gravy or sauce to help it out. Instead of Hungarian music and décor, as we expected, it was radio 70's and nondescript interior. The people were very nice however. Wish we could recommend it, but have to be... More

We are truly very sorry that you were disappointed with your meal. As far as the schnitzel goes, I'm sure you know that not all schnitzel is veal. We mention in the menu description that it is a pork schnitzel. I feel that the word "slab" indicates a large, thick heavy piece of meat. While our schnitzel is large, it... More

We first ate here about 20 years ago and was visiting Joseph this year and made reservations for a return visit. The menu was schnitzel, potatoes , red cabbage and dinner rolls. We were disappointed-my dinner roll was really hard, the large piece of schnitzel was dry and the one small piece of lemon did not improve it. The red... More

Great place with real character; makes you feel like you've been somewhere not just had another forgettable meal. They have a set menu every night; we were there on a Wednesday so we were served stuffed cabbage. Classic Hungarian dish; classically prepared. Couldn't resist sharing an apple strudel for dessert -- sensationally good (light and crisply, not heavy as it... More

This was our first time eating Hungarian food. You must have reservations and Maggie the owner is your server. She has such a fun personality that she made our dinner experience wonderful and interactive with the other diners. We had Goulash served in a pot that you dished out and the most amazing fried bread that you rubbed with a... More

We had a wonderful dinner at this restaurant on July 16, 2014. They usually have two seatings per evening (at 5:00 and 7:00 p.m.) and are often booked up well in advance (at least several days) -- the sign on the door says "Reservations Required". We were lucky to get in when someone cancelled (we got on the waiting list... More

There's one item on the menu, and you'd better have a reservation = otherwise you don't get in. So call again; and plan on enjoying the 40 year tradition. The original owners son and wife are now working the kitchen, while Maggie still works the tables. delightful.

Maggy Vali has been running this restaurant for 40 years. She personally supervises the meal preparation and serves every guest, with her wonderful personality. Her son Mike and his talented wife Dionne prepare the meals and pastries. The menu at Vali's is the most interesting and varied in Wallowa County. Each night there is a different offering of entrees such... More
