We first ate here about 20 years ago and was visiting Joseph this year and made reservations for a return visit. The menu was schnitzel, potatoes , red cabbage and dinner rolls. We were disappointed-my dinner roll was really hard, the large piece of schnitzel was dry and the one small piece of lemon did not improve it. The red... More

Great place with real character; makes you feel like you've been somewhere not just had another forgettable meal. They have a set menu every night; we were there on a Wednesday so we were served stuffed cabbage. Classic Hungarian dish; classically prepared. Couldn't resist sharing an apple strudel for dessert -- sensationally good (light and crisply, not heavy as it... More

This was our first time eating Hungarian food. You must have reservations and Maggie the owner is your server. She has such a fun personality that she made our dinner experience wonderful and interactive with the other diners. We had Goulash served in a pot that you dished out and the most amazing fried bread that you rubbed with a... More

We had a wonderful dinner at this restaurant on July 16, 2014. They usually have two seatings per evening (at 5:00 and 7:00 p.m.) and are often booked up well in advance (at least several days) -- the sign on the door says "Reservations Required". We were lucky to get in when someone cancelled (we got on the waiting list... More

There's one item on the menu, and you'd better have a reservation = otherwise you don't get in. So call again; and plan on enjoying the 40 year tradition. The original owners son and wife are now working the kitchen, while Maggie still works the tables. delightful.

Maggy Vali has been running this restaurant for 40 years. She personally supervises the meal preparation and serves every guest, with her wonderful personality. Her son Mike and his talented wife Dionne prepare the meals and pastries. The menu at Vali's is the most interesting and varied in Wallowa County. Each night there is a different offering of entrees such... More

Going to Vali's the first time is an education for it doesn't operate like any other restaurant I have ever been to. And I think I will leave it at that so you can enjoy the experience! We were there for Hungarian Pot Goulash which is more of a beef and vegetable soup with hot paprika. The entire meal consisted... More

Wonderful little Alpine restaurant...you might as well be sitting in Bavaria!! We had the ribeye on Saturday night and it was fabulous! Then went back on Sunday for the schnitzel...that was quite possibly the best meal I've eaten in months! Make sure to swing by Sat or Sun morning for homemade doughnuts, these guys are doing it right!!

Vali's has become a favorite stop when our family visits Wallowa Lake (for over 20 years). We just introduced another family to the experience this week. Look online and chose your menu item by the day you visit, or call. The common menu item keep the meal affordable and great, we have never been disappointed here. Maggie's feisty personality assures... More
