Wallowa Lake has alot to offer; but, VALI'S is by far our favorite and has been for more than 40 years!! Michael is now FT on site from sous-chef in Vegas, to help Mom, Maggie, who, for years with her husband, has owned and operated this gem of a Hungarian bistro. Each night has a pre-selected entree and each is... More

This is a family restaurant and you should ask to hear the family story. The restaurant is owned and run now by the son and his wife. He was our charming host and server. He took care of our party of fourteen and others. The food was excellent. Baked goods here are heavenly. Half of our group had dessert and... More

Visited Vali's and my brother had pre-ordered a selection of pastries to have with our morning coffee. Vali's home bakes their pastries on the weekends and when the tray came out, I couldn't believe it! The coffee cake was so light and airy with the perfect amount of cinnamon and had some lovely almond notes. My favorite was the cinnamon... More

The steak was made to perfection. As always the service was excellent. We have been going to Vali's since 1987 and have never been disappointed! Also, if you want donuts Saturday and Sunday morning you better pre-order. They are the best!!

Visited here with friends and family last night. While the food was oh so very good, it could not compare to the incredible hospitality & friendliness we encountered, as well. Our friends have been coming here for decades (Vali's has been an institution for 40 yrs), so they were truly treated like one of the family. But even as first... More

My wife and I visited our friend in Joseph and she said that we had to try the doughnuts here so she called ahead and reserved some for the next morning for a little snack before we went hiking. The doughnuts were basic but it is hard to explain how good they were. Definitely a must if you are in... More

We dined at Vali's tonight and their featured item was the grilled ribeye. It was cooked perfectly and tasted fantastic. It was served with a twice baked potato, ceasar salad and homeade dinner rolls. A perfect meal for a great price of only $18.00. I don't know how they do it. The service was great and the old world atmosphere... More

I was just at Vali's recently with some good friends for a little birthday celebration, and I have to say this small "mom and pop" place was absolutely charming! From the authentic Hungarian plates decorating the walls to the delicious cuisine, you can tell that love goes into everything these people do! Having recently returned from a lengthy European vacation,... More

Weinersnitzel was a "slab" of pork (not veal) half the size of the plate. Not very good truthfully, tough and dry. No gravy or sauce to help it out. Instead of Hungarian music and décor, as we expected, it was radio 70's and nondescript interior. The people were very nice however. Wish we could recommend it, but have to be... More

We are truly very sorry that you were disappointed with your meal. As far as the schnitzel goes, I'm sure you know that not all schnitzel is veal. We mention in the menu description that it is a pork schnitzel. I feel that the word "slab" indicates a large, thick heavy piece of meat. While our schnitzel is large, it... More
