Surprisingly, this small restaurant could easily compete in San Francisco or Portland. Friends heartily recommended the sushi, but I opted for salmon and tempura. Really exceptional! Very fresh fish and tempura as it should be--barely battered and practically flashed fried to perfection. Not the least bit greasy! The bento boxes were a big hit, as well. Large, with a good... Yes, we drove all the way from California for this special treat. And, the owner came to Jacksonville from Japan via Maui. That in itself is neat. Me and that Panda guy's fav... "Umi Pizza": Nori bottom, with a layer of rice, the salmon and other flavorful stuff, baked until golden. Good stuff.

I have eaten at this Umi Sushi several times, but after our last experience there, I will not go back. I went there the other day with my girlfriend for lunch. It was late in the lunch cycle, after 1:30pm. Shortly after sitting down we noticed that it was hard to talk because of the loud rock music and obnoxious... More

Pleasantly surprised how great this place is. Rolls were very tasty and the bento box was great and a good value too! Atmosphere was nice and located right downtown.

My weary son and I were greeted (after 8 hours on the road) with an environment that was altogether fun, laid back and quaint. The fish tasted freshly caught an the waitress was wonderful about working with our gluten free needs. They use gf soy sauce here so teriyaki can be had. Can't wait to return to OR and to... More

Great servers, chefs (especially when the owner is there) and delightful atmosphere. Sometimes it gets so crowded that you have to wait a little, but it's worth the wait.

Ok. So I grew up in So. Or. but have lived in L.A. for 15+ years...So when someone in So. Or. says that their Sushi is very good I'm skeptical. But I'm changing my attitude. Umi Sushi was very good. Not Matsuhisa but definitely very fresh and high grades of tuna, halibut, and salmon. The Yellow Tale was very fresh... More

Umi Sushi has great sushi with many varieties. Small rolls are $4 - 5. Their tempura and soups are also excellent as is the appetizers. The service is good. There is table seating and seating at the sushi bar

We tried three of the house specialty rolls. The zen roll particularly stood out in that it had butternut squash and mushrooms. Normally I find the vegetarian rolls at places to be very bland but this one was yummy. This restaurant also has a nice selection of saki.
