Being from the south, I was interested to try Soul food in Oregon. The restaurant was interesting inside and the staff was very nice. The homemade lemonade was very tart which was nice, but the spices used in the beans and macaroni and cheese made these two items very strange. From the fall of the bone ribs, to the jerked chicken sandwich to the fried catfish, it was all good. The sides of potato salad, yams, greens and corn bread rate high too. Although the wait might be long depending on the time and day, Papa's Soul Food has great food and a really great atmosphere. I love the fried catfish and all the sides we've tried have been really good. Plus, the portion sizes are very good - definitely enough for leftovers. Very ordinary. Oysters were over breaded and over fried, cornbread was dry, coleslaw had no flavor, French fries were soggy and mildly warm, the white wine was very sweet unknown to the waiter. This meal took over a half hour to serve???? Pleasant staff

Usual hour wait for a table is no big thing. Sit and have a couple of Microbrews while you wait or a traditional southern drink. the wait just makes the food all the more enticing. This little restaurant is in a cute neighborhood, in a remodeled rambler. We sat out on the deck, watching the band set up for the night's entertainment. It's a blues joint and says so on the menu.
