Lunch with Smokey Robinson

I'm not from the south so I can't say what is true BBQ or what is true soul food. But I do know this, sitting in Papa's, eating fried catfish and Carolina pulled pork, listening to Jazz and Motown, is a very good thing.

Down home atmosphere both inside and out, this Eugene landmark serves up all the traditional BBQ dishes: brisket, links, chicken, pork ribs along with catfish and a variety of sides. I really like Papa's smokey, slightly sweet sauce. There is nothing terribly unique about it, or anything else on the menu, yet almost everything pleases. A fun place to eat... More

We had another wonderful southern food meal with our family here. There was a 30 minute wait, loud jazz music, and crowded atmosphere, but worth it all in the end. The biscuit, red beans and rice, collard greens were wonderful. The ribs, cat fish, Mac and cheese great comfort food.

Really loud atmosphere. Good drinks! Ribs were not what I was expecting, still tasty. Sweet tea wasn't what my other half enjoyed but staff were very accommodating. Menu arrangement is fun and playful. Would try again and try something different on the menu.

Food is good. If you've lived or eaten in the south its hard to compare but it meets the needs for Cajun type food.

The dilemma is do I judge the food by Southern standards or what one finds on the West Coast. I ended up going with the Southern food scale which only rated as average, by West Coast standards it would be very good. I ordered the pulled pork plate with sides of baked beans and cole slaw. Service was nice and... More

First visit. Pulled pork sandwich and potato salad for eight bucks. It was the size of a house. I'll be a regular from now on.

Enjoyed the southern soul comfort food which was very good. Large servings. The restaurant was very busy on a Thursday evening but the service was great! Short walk from Ninkasi Brewery. The place has lots of character and we would definitely come back!
