I went to Joel Palmer's house with a few friends and was extremely disappointed. They are currently in between mushroom seasons and didn't have anything recently foraged aside from some truffles which were generously apllied to our dishes after being set on the table. The food was not interesting nor fresh in it's flavor or creations. The worst part was... more

I have always felt that a great dining experience at a high end restaurant is like a three legged stool. The legs being made up of food, service and ambiance. When one of the legs goes missing the stool falls over. That being said we have eaten at JPH many times. Because of the distance from our home and the... more

Wow, this is THE place to eat in the region! Unique, historic location in Oregon's burgeoning wine country. Remarkable food, extraordinary wine list and wine cellar, family feeling in a gourmet environment. Unlike many comparable restaurants, portions are very generous - you will not leave hungry, but save room for desserts! And make sure you meet the Chef De Cuisine... more

What a fantastic evening! This was my first time to Oregon Wine Country and after touring the wineries all day was told by several not to miss this restaurant... happy I listened because it was the best meal of our trip! We were welcomed upon arrival and sat at a very cute table by the window. The wild mushroom prelude... more

Let's just say when I read the trip advisors reviews, I take them with a grain of salt. With regard to this review, please take it with a ladle of salt. :) While the staff was very attentive, the food was just not good. We were anticipating the experience to be the highlight of our trip to Northwestern Oregon, however,... more

Great restaurant in the middle of Dayton, Oregon. And this restaurant has some competition from all of the good restaurants in Oregon's wine country. You are greeted as soon as you get out of your car, which is a nice touch. The service is good and the food is great. And you probably never had mushrooms served up like this. more

My husband and I went to the Joel Palmer House this past weekend (November 2007) with much higher expectations. With the exception of the wine steward and the risotto prelude, the entire experience was terrible. The acclaimed famous mushroom soup was incredibly salty...basically unedible past three spoonfuls. My husband ordered the wild boar appetizer special. The sauce was virtually tasteless... more

My husband and I ate at the Joel Palmer House this past week and can only describe the experience as "ok". It was recommended by our innkeeper, which I understand since there's not an over-abundance of good eateries in the area. I'll start with the positive. The service was great, the chef himself came out to check on our satisfaction... more

My boyfriend and I ate at Joel Palmer House last night - very good food. However, we were shocked when they told us that they were including an 18% gratuity in our bill - including the $125 bottle of wine that we ordered! What gives them the right to do that? more

As per our custom here for over 40 years, (prior to 1997 my family operated Joe's restaurant in Reading, PA since 1907) we automatically add 18% for gratuity to every bill. Even though most of our guests are pleased with this assessment, some guests choose to leave even more. However, I do respect people's freedom to tip at the level...
