Visited the underground- a "speakeasy" style restaurant/bar, often with live music. The meal was from De Fuegos' kitchen, which means amazing beef and salads- I'm so stuck on it that I haven't tried anything else... Ambiance was fun and the servers amazing. The whiskey choices...are terrific, with knowledgeable people to help selection.More

Had our anniversary dinner here everything was wonderful. My wife had a long island ice tea that was made perfectly. we had the ceviche for an appetizer, So good . The blue and belly salad was one of the best we've had. For the main course...we had the Argentine asado . It was spectacular. Jennifer was our waitress and gave us wonderful service.More

Found this restaurant just after the first of this year. We have eaten in the bar 9 times and in the main area 3 times. We will be eating in the Underground this evening. The food is incredible. we have tried many different items and...no disappointments!! The service is so good. The servers know us and are so nice. We want to try the brunch and lunch menus. My only complaint is that there is not a wine in stock that we love but some that are ok. We have shared dinners there with friends and they enjoyed it so much! This has become "OUR PLACE"!!More

This was our first time back since 2020. We sat out on the patio. Our server was Selena. My wife and I split a charred squash salad, her main was the Rainbow Trout mine was the Wgyu Teres. We had just been served our salads,...when the main entrees arived. This is unsatisfactory, especially when you are paying over $100 for a two person meal. I ordered my beef medium rare and it came rare, My wife's trout was somewhat over cooked. Again, unsatisfactory at $100 dinner. It appears they have a pacing issue and a cooking issue. Hopefully they will get it resolved. I am not sure we will be back.More

I discovered this place for lunch and will return for dinner and drinks. I'm rarely in the Clackamas area, but joined a former co-worker to catch up. de Fuego is a South American restaurant with a great menu and great reviews, so we gave them...a try. It is a beautiful place attached to The Monarch Hotel. It has a restaurant and bar on the upper level and a steak house at a lower level. We split a bowl of shrimp ceviche that was light and delicious, followed by their meat platter of tender skirt steak, beef ribs and andouille sausage, accompanied by tiny potatoes with cheese sauce. All of the servings were very ample to share and absolutely delicious. We chatted for over two hours, with the service being efficient, but not intrusive. This will be another favorite for me with a very different menu of Chilean and Argentinian meat and vegetable dishes. There are also special events periodically offered. Had just missed a dinner celebration of Anthony Bordain's birthday.More

My husband and I were celebrating my birthday and ordered appetizer, salad and mains. After the appetizer my husband was served his main course, luke warm ribs. After 5 minutes we finally hailed down a busboy to get our server and asked where my meal...was? She said "we serve it family style". A full 10 minutes later my meal arrived with the salad. Total disappointment in service and food.More

This is my first time having lunch here, my friend wanted to meet me here at this restaurant, I’m glad that she did. I love the ambience the service and the food, what more could you want in a restaurant. I have a breakfast date...with a friend coming up, so we will go ahead and have breakfast here and besides everything I’ve already mentioned I love the fact I can make reservations. I look forward to having some good service and tasty food once again.More

My girlfriend and I ate here for Valentine's Day 2022. Was our first time to try as per advice from her coworkers. Since we live on the east side, it's nice to know where we can go to have some really good food. Since COVID,...we've had no desire to go to any of the downtown restaurants. The menu is pretty heavy on the meat with a few seafood options. May be challenging for any vegetarians. The service was exceptional and quick. They weren't kidding when they said the sides and tapas would come out fast. The entree servings are pretty big, enough to feed 2 people if you don't want to take home leftovers. We ordered a couple appetizers and sides along with an entree each. My girlfriend is a pretty "picky" eater and she liked all the items we ordered. Our server was "on the ball". She for warned us on how fast the food would come. The only minor setback was she forgot to refill my soda. We are definitely going back to try the other items. If you're staying in the Monarch, you definitely should try.More

While I have enjoyed private dining, Sunday Brunch and Group Benefit events in the main restaurant, I personally prefer the offerings of the Underground sub-restaurant. Management has made this a unique experience that ranks high for the entire Portland area and has established a very...high bar for enjoyment, dining, entertainment and libations in a very short run, so far. I have been in many times in the past few months and find it a better experience every time. Keep up the good work.. Bill, Colby and the super service staff! P.S...the music is superb.. the very best jazz musicians in the area regularly rotate through this restaurant/club/speakeasy..More

Dinner was overly salty and I question putting 2 starches on a plate. I had expected a steak but it was chopped up in a gravy. So a better description of the meal would be nice. The $11 for a tasteless desert with a frosting...that tasted like Cool Whip was disappointing at best. As for breakfast if you like your french toast dry and with VERY little syrup then this is the breakfast for you, but not me.More

The atmosphere was cool. Some dishes are served family style, some are not. It was a little confusing, and our server didn’t explain it very well at the start, so we had to wait for her to return, and ask again what the sharing was...about. The food doesn’t come out all at once, it comes out as it’s prepared. The meals that are intended for sharing are generous portions. Food tasted great. They were out of most of the draft beers, and the ceviche appetizer that I ordered. We were a party of 6, and everyone got their meals except for my salmon. It just never came. Neither did our server, to check on the table. When she finally returned, everyone was done with their meals. She said my meal had been made, but delivered to a different table?? She offered to have it made still, but obviously I wasn’t going to wait when everyone was done with their meals. I don’t live here, so I won’t be returning. If I did, I may give it another try, and hope for better service.More

De Fuego has several restaurants in the same complex each offering different meals. The steakhouse is the most expensive with prices similar to the top notch steakhouses. Service is family style, even for the entrees. I’m not a fan of food arriving piecemeal which is...standard for this restaurant. This means that some people are left without food for a substantial period of time. Bread was not served. Perhaps due to the conditions today menu items were not available but the server wasn’t always aware until much later. Our server was excellent however she was not the person bringing the food. The staff was so busy you couldn’t readily ask for salt, pepper or express needs in a timely fashion. My husband and son raved about the food (seafood and short ribs). I found my prime rib tender and juicy but under seasoned. The empanada appetizer was excellent as were the brussel sprouts. Overall, I was disappointed and felt that despite the excellent quality of food it was not worth the price charged.More

Is you want to sit outside you sit yourself , today not the case and we sat down and now have been Ignored by staff for 20 minutes , even after we went and checked in . Maybe the vision is too big for the guy in charge to make the experiment consistent and good . Saw two tables leave without any food order they went and paid for the two drinks they . I usually order during the week since I work across the street, have tried a couple of time on the weekend and it’s been a bomb .More

8-18-20. Staying at a nearby hotel the receptionist recommened the De Fuego Grille in the Monarch Hotel - Clackamas for dinner. The menu has many interesting choices most leaning towards a variation of South American/Mexican dishes, it was hard to decide what I wanted, everything...was very appealing. I choose the special Oaxaca Guacamole appetizer & the Brazilian Salmon served on top of creamy risotto with grilled corn, both excellent & large portions of each. Definitely going back to De Fuego Grille. There are nightly specials in the dining room, not sure if they are offered in the bar or outdoor dining off the bar. Highly recommend making a reservation for the dining room, believe the bar & outside dining is first come first seated. I was alone & the dining room tables where I sat were well spaced & those by the window overlooking the pool area were separated by trifold screening.More
