Amazing beer, good service, decent food.

Our first visit, and first experience of 'German' food. Not sure how authentically German the food was, but the beer was amazing, the service was top notch (very friendly, and well-informed waitress) and the food was fresh and tasteful.

A great neighborhood place for us. Happy hour good, fine dining also. This is recognized as a German food spot, but also serve American.always great food and service. Pleasant atmosphere. Love their chicken schnitzel, potato pancakes and schnitzel.

We've been here a number of times and the experience always makes us feel good. The decor of wood framing, high ceilings, stained glass windows welcomes you. The servers are pros...and the food exceptional. We moved from Chicago, where there are great German restaurants..this beats Fritzel's. I especially recommend the Hungarian Veal Jager with a delicious sauce, mushrooms, and spaetzel.

We visited the restaurant for the first time this August .,the dishes we tried were nice and tasty , but we had to Cancel our apetizer we ordered because the main dishes were already on our table. Some kind of order/ kitchen confusions. At least we got no charge for that.

Mainly German food but I like the roasted chicken. Prices are reasonable and service good. They also have a fondue if you are into that.

The food was extremely good. We had a booth with a lovely view of Clackamas and Milwaukie. We were there about 3:00 PM, and apparently that's when a shift change occurs, or something, because our service started out great, and then became non-existent. Too bad, too, because the food, decor, and atmosphere were really great. I guess the lesson is... More

German food isn't exactly on the cutting edge of food cuisine in my opinion, but every so often who doesn't want some sausage, schnitzel, and beer? Gustav's is a friendly atmosphere and the food is very satisfying, so its worth a trip when you are in the mood. I was on my own, so I sat at the bar and... More

The Gustav and Rheinlander restaurants have been some of our favorite places to go to get a glimpse of Germany, but they have continuously gone down hill in terms of authenticity. The food is pretty good. And you can't beat the fondue. But why is there American music playing? Last time we went they were completely out of Hofbrau Helles... More

Fondue W/ bread & sausage is a must. We order two links, which are good size and you can try two different favors. Schnitzels are good, as well as the chicken schnitzel club. Huge and always take 1/2 home. Try the happy hour on Sunday's all day!

Great Ambience! Superb Server (Kimmie)! Food was delightful - very authentic cuisine. We had a hiccup on our meals being served - warm, not hot. Kimmie got on it immediately, insisting the kitchen do it all from scratch. The Manager on Duty served the replacement food, and apologized profusely. He also suggested we leave room for dessert, as it was... More
