The entire Gustav's chain just underwent a major "update", apparently in an attempt to broaden its appeal. It has a new, more playful logo/sign (i.e. moving away from the German "fraktur" font) and the menu significantly changed to include a much higher percentage of American favorites. While most of their popular German dishes remain (schnitzels, fondue, German sausage), some of... More

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner there. We tried a beef flight while our food was being prepared -- the waitress was very knowledgeable in that regard. The food, salmon for my husband, and sausage something or other for me was very tasty. If we ever go back to Clackamas, we will eat there again!

When visiting the Portland area, we stay at the Monarch Hotel in Clackamas. Gustav's is directly across the 205 so while we have noticed it often, this was the first time to eat there. It is easily accessed from either Sunnyside or Sunnybrook off ramps. The building is very nice, high ceilings and beams, stained glass and the expected German... More

Been there about six times. Either the food is mediocre or the service is. Went today and it hasn't changed. Server forgot a side item then charged us. Told her about it. Her attitude was, oh well, who cares. Look elsewhere for good food and service.

Having been here several times, I am usually impressed. The food is good and a nice change from the typical restaurant fare. The staff is friendly and knowledgable. My only complaint is the wait time: for a table, for drinks, for food, and for the check.

One of the best German meals of my life. The food, service and decor was the best. If you like German food, this is your place.

The customer service and the food were absolutely top notch! Upon hearing it was our first visit to Gustav's, the manager comped us a full serving of their famous fondue. So we were well taken care of by Ted, our waiter, and the manager, both. I had the Sauerbraten, German Potato Salad, Red Cabbage Sauerkraut and Spaetzle noodles. They tasted authentic... More

Located right off I-205 south the restaurant is open for both lunch and dinner. The saurbrauten had just the right amount of ginger, it's onion soup was delicious with just the right amount of salt (no additional salting needed), and the potato pancakes are to die for!

We have eaten at this restaurant several times when we visit the Portland area. The food is always really good!! They have a happy hour menu with a lot of their specialties on the menu. Their roast pork is some of the best I've ever had. The sweet and sour cabbage and German potato salad are some of my favorites.... More

We went with a group of friends and everyone loved everything that was ordered. We started with 2 cheese fondue apps and we were scraping the bowl with a spoon for more of that great cheese. I had the German bratwurst and the Cheddar bratwurst with a caeser salad and it was the perfect size. Our guests said the cabbage... More
