The Olde Jaol facility was built in 1865, and was claimed to be the finest sheriff facility of its kind. In 1977 the Wayne county sheriffs department was relocated across the street to a new facility. Subsequently, the old jail was registered as a historical landmark in 1980 and in 1995 The Olde Jaol Steakhouse / Tavern was given life. We have an excellent reputation for quality and service.Today, the Olde Jaol houses the finest in food and hospitality. We recommend our Certified Angus Beef® steak entrées. Only 8 percent of beef is tasty enough to meet the brand’s high standards. It’s simply the tastiest, juiciest, most tender beef you’ll ever have.

Fun Place to Eat.

Fun Experience. My husband and I had a night out. We ate in the Jail not the Tavern. The waitress was wonderful. The food was good. We both had the filet Mignon, garlic mashed potatoes and green beans. I will say the food was salty. All of it. We like salt so we were not offended. But we were... read more

Great atmosphere! The outdoor patio/bar area is very atmospheric! We've had food catered and also used the party rooms there. Must take the tour and see the downstairs bar...very nostalgic. Suppose to be a "Ghost/Haunting" type of place. RICH in history! Did I mention how great the food is?

Per reviews decided to give the Tavern a try. Since it was a beautiful day, we ate in the courtyard. Felt like Goldilocks looking for the right table, but it took a bit to find a table in the shade that sat level. Our waitress was less than efficient but certainly friendly. The menu selection was nice and our food... More

As always the Mushroom Burger was great. I got swiss cheese on the burger. Good service and done quickly.

Not a good choice. Poor service and bad food. I am not picky and do not like to give a negative review.

We recently dined at this two-part restaurant. We chose the less formal, al fresco dining, tavern component. We experienced none of the service problems noted by some other TA reviewers. In fact, our server could not have been any better -- she was prompt, helpful and responsive to our requests - and did all that while being appropriately cordial. We... More

The unique small plate offerings made our meals a pleasure. Order the eggplant if you can. However, there was a mediocre wine by the glass selection. When I asked about the Sauvignin Blanc choices, our server said they were both wonderful. In fact, they were disappointing.

We stopped for lunch at their "sports bar" section. They also have a fine dining area in the evenings where you can actually dine in a real jail cell. They do not lock you in. The food was good and the service was good. We plan to make reservations for the other area in the near future.

This place is stuffy to me... And I get "hangry" when I have to wait for any food, let alone mediocre food.... The waiter flirted with my husband, which is never a good fit for a couple that gets to go on a date night twice a year.... I wouldn't volunteer to go back. There are plenty of great places... More

I went into the tavern on a Tuesday afternoon (St. Patty's day) around 2 pm. Sat down at the bar hoping to get a burger and drink. We waited for almost 10 minutes, not finding a single employee in sight. Observing the scene there was a man sitting at the bar with a beer, and another couple sitting at a... More
