Description: The Olde Jaol facility was built in 1865, and was claimed to be the finest...
The Olde Jaol facility was built in 1865, and was claimed to be the finest sheriff facility of its kind. In 1977 the Wayne county sheriffs department was relocated across the street to a new facility. Subsequently, the old jail was registered as a historical landmark in 1980 and in 1995 The Olde Jaol Steakhouse / Tavern was given life. We have an excellent reputation for quality and service.Today, the Olde Jaol houses the finest in food and hospitality. We recommend our Certified Angus Beef® steak entrées. Only 8 percent of beef is tasty enough to meet the brand’s high standards. It’s simply the tastiest, juiciest, most tender beef you’ll ever have.

Horrific Service

Wish we "could have" experienced this fine dining restaurant, however... We had a reservation. There were only a few tables filled at 5:30 p.m., but they took us to a table in the bar back by the kitchen. We requested the other area where we "had" a reservation. Hostess sat us down and said... read more

I travel a lot for work and like to try local restaurants as much as possible. This one was very good. We ate in the tavern side of it. Our service and meals were both outstanding.

My most recent visit to the Olde Jaol will, unfortunately, probably be my last. The new chef changed the menu and I can understand the need to refresh the offerings sometimes but there was no indication that any change had occurred (the salad that was once a meal was now not even an appetizer) and we were severely disappointed to... Restaurant is located in the basement of a historical building that was once used as a jail. Our party of 9 had a private room and we found the service to be attentive, along with menu prices that were very reasonable for the quality of food we enjoyed.

Every trip to Wooster included a dinner at the Old Jaol. Great service with excellent steaks, salads, and service. Great menu.

This was our first time going here. Excellent all the way around! Good wine, great drafts and amazing food. I had the mustard crusted lamb ribs and it was awesome. My husband had a steak and it was cooked perfectly. The atmosphere was romantic and the decor was very interesting seeing this is an old jailhouse. Loved the history of... More

Dined on sirloin with green beans and a wonderful Goat Cheese salad of greens, warm goat cheese with rolled walnuts, pecans and a balsamic vinaigrette. Price was reasonable, steak was served medium - medium well and didnt need any condiment to enhance flavor. Staff is efficient and helpful.

When I want to go out on the town for a dress-up type of meal in the winter, I head to the Olde Jaol Restaurant and Tavern with my wife. Indoor seating is fancy, even if dining downstairs in the stone-lined cells. It is romantic and the food is well worth the price. My personal favorite is the lamb. In... More

Ate downstairs in the cells. The place is kind of unique to eat at. The food was pretty good and the staff very pleasant. I would recommend it.
