Good but gone

This WAS the only white-table cloth restaurant in Newark. Unfortunately, it is or will soon be out of business. Another restaurant will move in, serving "American Classic" for, whatever that is (according to the Newark Advocate). While it was in business, I found the food at the Grill to be good... read more

Food was great! The restaurant is in a downtown building on the Square...easily accessible and comfortable. I've had their salmon, steak and a pasta dish and everything was delicious! Have eaten there for lunch and for dinner and have taken friends and family there and NEVER disappointed!

We were pleased by the menu, and the choices were great. We had a 'new' waiter, but he was under the watchful eye of another waiter and a manager, and he was just fine. A bit of elegance in Newark, OH......it's a nice town with an old fashioned town square and court house. We've eaten in several places in town,... More

The Chop House has the potential to be a premiere dinning destination, but the details seem to be missing for a truly first class experience. For example the entry way to the restaurant is cluttered, too many staff people standing around chatting it up, the bread rolls are cold and unimpressive, apparagus anemic, and the steak was merely OK. A... More

Instead of driving into Columbus for fine dining on our long awaited kid-free date night, we decided to give this restaurant a try.... Well, I am sure glad we did! Our dinner was superb! We had lobster bisque, crab cakes and the scallops. All of those were great and the service was quick and attentive. The prices are on the... More

My wife and I traveled to Newark for a little get-a-way after the holiday. We stayed in the Doubletree Inn (reviewed elsewhere), only a short distance from the CH, as it is described in much of their literature. The restaurant is located on the town square in Newark, Ohio. In late December, while there was no snow this year (2014),... More

Average food for an expensive price and slow. Many of our parties food didn't match how it was explained on the menu either.

Arrived late on a week night and ate at the bar where I enjoyed great service and a few drafts of a nice India Pale Ale from a local brewery. The 8oz filet mignon served "Oscar style" with hollandaise, and chunks of crabmeat over asparagus was nearly perfect. The NY Style cheesecake was a perfect finish for a hungry traveler..

Walked to the restaurant from the Doubletree hotel in downtown Newark. Place was packed! Had the crab cake dinner and tasted the Mac and cheese and au gratin potatoes. Everything arrived hot and well presented. Really enjoyed the strawberry pecan salad as well.

One block walk from the Doubletree. Had reservations, no worries. Small draft beer selection but good variety nevertheless. The 'boss' had beef - unusual for this near vegetarian, but she raved ! Chicken Marsala for me - best ever. Salads were good too. Try the lettuce wedge if you like bacon. Yummie. As opposed to Cindyxxx, worth the price. Kathy... More
