Great food BUT staff ruined the experience

It's a shame that the chef is producing very good, though expensive food. The menu is quite restricted but is well presented. However the staff did take the edge off the night. Starting with an " as I said" when we asked for the specials to be repeated. Both staff members exuded an atmosphere... read more

When we saw the outside of the building we nearly walked away, but we are so pleased we did not. Inside the place takes on a whole new ambiance, great views over the water, impeccable service and the best fish (blue eyed travella) we had in Tasmania, washed down with the house recommended Eddystone Point Sauvignon Blanc, which was also... They served the best fish and chips compared to other restaurants in Tassie that I've been to but it came with a pretty hefty bill though.

This is a high class restaurant, despite its humble name and location in a fishing town. Having eaten at lots of Tasmanian restaurants in recent weeks, I decided to leave the fish (apart from an excellent squid entree) and try their pork belly. It was heaven - as good as I have eaten in more pretentious places in capital cities,... More

Stopped at this fishing wharf for take away fish and chips to taste some local catch. Appreciated the service we received and advice about what was fresh and local, and what had come from interstate. Although your serve for one of selected seafood item and chips comes in a nice box with all the trimmings, it struck us that at... More

Had two meals from the take-away. To be honest, didn't think the chips were fantastic. They were commercial-cut and nothing special. But the fish was terrific. Had flathead and calamari - cooked very nicely. Generous pieces of fish, smaller serve of chips - and I reckon that's just fine. Very happy with the meals and would come back again.

Dear Oliver H, thank you for the positive feedback. We can't claim the credit though, that belongs to Captains Catch takeaway next door. Many Thanks Blue Shed More

Visited St Helens today and had a lovely lunch at The Blue Shed. My fiancé and I both had half a dozen oysters for entree. Mine were natural and my fiancé were cooked. Absolutely delicious! For main we both had fish of the day which was blue eye. Again delicious! Never had blue eye before. Staff was attentive ( only... More

Before heading to St Helen's, we had spoken to many regular visitors to St Helen's and all recommended the Blue Shed as worth a visit. We arrived dressed to the nines at 6.15pm. We were asked by the waitress if we had a reservation and when we said no she said she would have to consult her manager to see... More

Dear Mandy where do I begin with this review. You seem most concerned about how you were dressed on the night, we were not. Any casual attire is just fine in a seaside village. On the night in question we were nearly full not nearly empty. The Ocean Trout dish which was offered as Atlantic salmon ( we had run... More

My partner and I had a lovely meal at the Blue Shed. The meals are well priced and made with super fresh, scrumptious ingredients. We had the squid, ocean trout and blue eye and enjoyed each dish thoroughly. The location was also divine, right on the water, and the service quick and friendly. Highly recommend the this place for anyone... More

Stumbled upon this place when visiting the Bay of Fires. The food and view was absolutely amazing. I was a bit sceptical of the price at first but once the good arrived wow! The fish was cooked to perfection and the mint and mashed pea fritters were amazing. The only issue we faced was that the server was whinging that... More
