So sad this place is closing

Three of us had the Sicilian lasagne and it was magnificent as was the salmon for another in our group. The apple and custard cake was delicious too. All the best Jane in your new venture down the river in the vineyard - we'll keep in touch. LEDAAF!

It is difficult to find good places to eat in northern Tasmania. There are some well known ones in Launceston such as Stillwater and Black Cow, but for something a bit more relaxed, casual and rustic you cannot go past The River's Edge Cafe. The food is on the homestyle side, but in the best possible way. We had three... More

Lunch with my Mum here on a cold and bleak Tasmanian winter day. My Mum's salmon was excellent - cooked with a nice crispy skin. My Lebanese lamb dish was very tasty with figs, but perhaps too liquid to serve on a couscous. The lemon tart wasn't very lemony or tart. Great wines. I especially love the Storm Bay pinot... More

The excellent reputation of this establishment was absolutely correct. A family birthday party was presented with a very comprehensive menu (not a special one) which caused major problems in decision making. How do you choose between Lebanonese lamb and homely chicken pie? All dishes were received with acclamation! A very relaxing experience with friendly service in a country atmosphere ...... More

I can't put into words how perfectly we were looked after when I arranged a surprise birthday lunch for my mother at The River's Edge Cafe. The food homemade with love, the wine complimenting each course, the atmosphere welcoming, the building charming, the garden whimsical, the service without fault. A huge thank you to Jane and her team at The... More

We recently had lunch at the River's Edge Café. This café has a relaxed atmosphere which is great for those who don't want a 'stuffy over the top restaurant'. The owner and staff are very friendly and service is great. Although the menu is not large the meals are tasty and enjoyable. The gardens are pleasant and they are able... More

A family wedding in Northern Tasmania meant a return to childhood haunts after a break of many years for my partner. Lots of things had changed since she went off to university in Canberra more than 40 years ago and with a day to spare before the ceremony we decided to follow a recommendation and lunch at the Rivers Edge... We love to go here. We are vegetarians and the owner goes out of her way to give us a delicious meal even though the vegetarian/gluten free dishes are limited. We had roasted capsicums stuffed with a delicious rice with fruit and nuts. One of us had mushroom risotto which she said was the best she had ever had. Our... More
