This site has closed as Vulcans and has reopened as Vesta Restaurant. Vesta has more of an Italian flavour but are still focussed on slow cooked meats in the ancient bread oven. Well worth a visit

Excellent menu with service to match. Cannot fault this restaurant. Food made with love and attention to detail.

Why it here? Its the finesse and care that goes in the food, that's why,its reputation is legend. The aromatic soft and yielding roast duck breast spiced with star anise and pepper, steamed slowly in their oven which served a bakery in a former life, then crisped in a pan . Its served on the bone with a side of spicy smashed potatoes,coriander... More

Vulcan's was a great culinary icon not just for the Blue Mountains, but acknowledged as such by the foodie set throughout Sydney. The first time I dined there we were entertaining very demanding Japanese guests. They had no complaints - which equated to a rave review. Unfortunately Vulcan's is no more, having closed within the past six months (June 2013).... More

Although it's been a long time since I've been able to have a meal here (I live in Qld), I simply must pass on my recommendation. I have eaten here 5 or 6 times and EVERY time EVERY single part of the meals has been incredible. Earthy food where even the humblest of ingredients becomes a taste sensation. Treat yourself... We are so sad to farewell one of our all time favourites as Phillip and Barry hang up their aprons. We have so many wonderful memories of great meals over the years particularly through the winter months. The duck, the fish, the beef as well as those fabulous puddings, ice creams and parfaits! One weekend we ate there twice in... More

It was our last lunch at Vulcan's as Phillip Searle is retiring next week on 25th. Not that he doesn't deserve an alternative life as he has been looking after people like myself for many decades. While fads may come and go, Phillip Searle's cooking will remain in my memory forever whether I think of his early Adelaide days or... More

Have been going here for sixteen years and just love it. The food looks simple but it's not, the complexity of flavours and ingredients makes it very special indeed. Quite small and you need to book ahead.

Some things never change. They just remain constantly good. The dishes which remain Philip's menu always remain up to standard. The new dishes in this case the salmon entree were excellent.

There are two entries for this restaurant, one with an apostrophe and one without, so I am repeating the review below: We went for a Saturday lunch, having been for dinner twice some years ago and enjoyed the food and ambience. However, it was neither good nor memorable this time. We started with the Tofu three ways, which was swamped... More
