We found this pub by accident when hiking in the area and were completely surprised when we discovered they had a huge and lovely outside area. Very nice service as well so we returned for lunch the next day and enjoyed the food as well. If you are in this area this pub is definitely worth a visit, especially if... More

Found this place in The Good Pub Guide as we were visiting nearby RSPB Pulbrough Brooks and wanted a good meal first. "Charming and whimsical" is a great way to describe the ambience inside and out; the landlady has made the place look amazing with a host of individual touches ( we sat between two old pianos which housed a... Lovely pub with superb home-made food which changes often depending on local produce available. Would recommend booking ahead to avoid disappointment. Took my parents here for a treat and they also loved it. Ideally situated for a walk in nearby Petworth Park afterwards. Will be back

A charming and whimsical place with very pleasant smiling front of house staff. Three of the mains were very good, my Croque monsuer was overcooked, greasy and tooth challengingly crunchy. Not wishing to spoil a convivial lunch party i didn't complain. Two of the puds were excellent. The rice pudding (looked stunning) was inedible. Not sweet and with an astringency... More

Reliable, tasty refuge in rural W. Sussex. Great atmosphere, friendly staff. Owners trying hard to use local suppliers. Worth the drive.

Chocolate box location is an excellent starting point, to which add tasteful interiors and a delightfully maintained garden. They make much of their purchase of fresh local food and this is apparent in the variety on display in the menu. Ahead of a cricket match that afternoon, I looked for a light lunch but didn't want to have to compromise... More

Do not believe the hype - the food we sampled was overcooked, overpriced and tasteless. We took my father in law here for lunch a couple of weeks ago. He moved away from the area after 30 and we invited him back to the pub telling him that it has now received very good food reviews (including on this site).... More

I have had two lunches and a works dinner here. All three times the staff were friendly, attentive and welcoming. The food is excellent, using fresh and locally sourced ingredients. The menu changes frequently which gives you a great choice of food. They also have a great garden outside. You can also purchase local produce and things they have made... More

Just a quick visit and a light bite. A bust pub with a nice atmosphere and family orientated. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful and gave us lots of advice on where to visit next:) The food was good, too!! Worth a visit.
