The inn has medieval origins and is a few paces from the centre of Petworth. With a relaxed atmosphere throughout, its unspoilt bar features ships beams, wooden and slate floors, stone walls and 3 fireplaces, one of which is used to spit-roast joints of meat. On fine days the walled garden is a peaceful suntrap. With a choice of local real ales served by hand pump or directly from the barrel and an extensive wine list we cater to all tastes. We are serious about our food and ingredients are locally sourced where possible; much of our fish is landed at Littlehampton, the Sussex Downs provide our lamb, along with most of the vegetables that we serve. The seasonal menu is changed four times a year, supplemented by a fortnightly menu with daily chef’s specials to provide a comprehensive choice for the most discerning diner. A warm welcome awaits you.The inn is recognised by The Good Beer Guide, The Good Pub Guide, Cask Marque and Great Country Pubs.

Lovely pub, good food, HUGE kids portions

We visited on a Saturday lunchtime over Easter as a party of 9. Booking was essential. It's a popular pub and with good reason. It's an appealing pub in a sweet village. They have a good range of ales - Smokestack Lightning from the Dorking Brewery was very fine. The menu looks pretty standard... read more

We chose The Angel because we wanted to visit Petworth House on the way back from a weekend in Bognor and it was in the middle of the village and had good reviews. It more than exceeded our expectations. A quintessential historic building with all the best mod cons! We booked a basic room but were lucky enough to be... More

First visit, here, as we were staying at the railway, nearby. We were seated by a huge log fire, which was perfect for my old knees. Super efficient staff and a fine meal for both of us. The price of the wine was a little on the expensive side, but that was the only small gripe, really. Very pleasant décor,... More

Large dishes made with very good quality products cooked on a perfect way. Meats or fish are delicious.

The 4 of us were shown to a table in the bar as the manager said a large party in the restaurant might be somewhat noisy. The bar area had a great atmosphere but it did get quite loud as it filled up with locals. Our table was next to the exit to the garden and the door was forever... More

Brought my partner to The Angle Inn for her birthday and loved every minute off it. The food that we ordered was divine and beautifully presented. The service was very friendly and professional. Overall we had a very enjoyable evening.

We were strolling around the pretty town of Petworth looking for an eatery, the first one we stumbled on was The Angel. It looks nothing special from the outside, and when you walk in through the door off the street it has a kind of Tardis feel. You got the immediate impression this was a quality establishment. we had not... More

By far the very best fish & chips that any pub has offered. 2 types of batter but the one I had was with chives I think! can't quite remember the other ingredient! very light and the fish SO fresh. Very polite and attentive staff. The pub has lots of character and great atmosphere of enjoyment all around and the... More

Stopped for a glass of wine and ended up being jealous of those who were eating there. The food looked and smelled wonderful. Staff very friendly and approachable. Wine choice was very good, even for just a glass. An opportunity missed I feel

The Angel is a pub/restaurant/hotel that I use regularly and never have they failed to deliver be it service, food or and all round nice evening. The food is always good, try the fish pie! What stands out for me however is the service, never have I missed out on a table when busy, the staff are always friendly and... More
