The inn has medieval origins and is a few paces from the centre of Petworth. With a relaxed atmosphere throughout, its unspoilt bar features ships beams, wooden and slate floors, stone walls and 3 fireplaces, one of which is used to spit-roast joints of meat. On fine days the walled garden is a peaceful suntrap. With a choice of local real ales served by hand pump or directly from the barrel and an extensive wine list we cater to all tastes. We are serious about our food and ingredients are locally sourced where possible; much of our fish is landed at Littlehampton, the Sussex Downs provide our lamb, along with most of the vegetables that we serve. Hmmm. when are we coming back ????

First visit , very impressed from arrival, was part of a group of 7, and nothing was too much trouble, very attentive not intrusive service. The " boys " are very professional and take an obvious pride in their profession without being " snooty " I was a bit concerned at the large amount of choice... read more

Supper in The Angel on a Monday night. It was not very busy and probably at the start of service, so very attentive waiting staff and prompt service. I had the fish pie, which was very well made and served piping hot. It did appear to be made earlier and reheated. That said the flavours were very good and the... More

been trying my hand at all my new local establishments as have very recently moved into the area, this one left me miffed, as with all the places I have been the locations have been lovely but a fair few are struggling. If your a pub sell affordable pub food, if your a restaurant sell restaurant food. Don't try and... More

We didn't know what to expect when we decided to pop in for a sandwich last Saturday lunchtime, it was a lovely day so we were hoping there was a garden to sit in. We weren't disappointed, we were shown to a lovely walled garden. The sandwich idea went out of the window when we saw the menu and both... More

Third visit and The Angel has been consistently good. Today's fish pie was excellent with a very good helping, large chunks of fish and not over seasoned. Service was attentive, the restaurant is all one could want and it made for a thoroughly enjoyable visit.

We spent a very nice Saturday lunch time at the Angel. Friendly staff. Portions were too large for us but overall it was very nice pub food. Thank you to the staff.

We visited on a Saturday lunchtime over Easter as a party of 9. Booking was essential. It's a popular pub and with good reason. It's an appealing pub in a sweet village. They have a good range of ales - Smokestack Lightning from the Dorking Brewery was very fine. The menu looks pretty standard - gammon, egg & chips, burgers,... More

We chose The Angel because we wanted to visit Petworth House on the way back from a weekend in Bognor and it was in the middle of the village and had good reviews. It more than exceeded our expectations. A quintessential historic building with all the best mod cons! We booked a basic room but were lucky enough to be... More
