It is full of elegant charm and character with an eclectic mix of antique furniture and artefacts which enhance it's uniqueness. The Hollist has built a reputation for superb home cooked gastronomical delights by Serge and Sally, the chefs and owners, who have created a menu that excites and comforts. Serge's Mediterranean background, combined with his classic French training and years of gastronomical experience in France and England show in the quality of the food served. His philosophy is simple however. He prides himself on producing unpretentious food, generously portioned, sensibly priced and full of flavours. The Hollist has been nominated as one of the 25 best pubs in Sussex, with a special mention for outstanding roasts on Sundays (Sussex Life July 2013).The hollist also boasts an enviable wine list with wines sourced exclusively from small, independent vineyards; plus three fantastic, well kept real ales, one of which is a regularly changing guest ale. We look forward to meeting you.

Spent a lovely lunch time in front of a roaring fire in a super village pub. Choose a very simple lunch which was delicious and the staff were very friendly and efficient. It was a return visit for us to the village after many years and it was a welcoming place to spend a relaxing lunch.

I approached this Sunday lunch with a little trepidation. There are a number of reviews out there with bad service warnings - quite a few. I do not know if we were lucky, if the staff has changed, or if the people sending those reviews had no basis for this. We found it to be very friendly, the service good... More

We booked a family Sunday lunch this weekend at the Hollist Arms based on the back of the excellent reviews on Tripadvisor and were not disappointed. We were a party of 6, including 2 children and were after a decent Sunday lunch with the children’s godparents. All four adults opted for the Roast Beef which was excellent, a really good... More

We fell across this place almost by accident. It's not all that inviting from outside (the front could be cleared of clutter) but on entering we were given a warm welcome. The menu is a mixture of the normal and the unusual, and the food was tasty, well presented and very good value. Service was friendly and efficient and the... More

Had lunch there today with friends and our godson and I really can not fault it! The food was excellent, the pork belly being the best I have tasted, as were the vegetables and gravy. The staff could not have been more friendly. It was a really welcoming, cozy, country pub, just what you want on winter Sunday afternoon. It's... More

My husband and I tried this pub for dinner on a friday and really enjoyed the whole evening. The bar was busy with locals enjoying an early evening drink and we were able to sit next to the wonderful log burner in an Inglenook fireplace for our dinner. We had Bouillabaise and Calves Liver - both of which were tremendous.... More

We had a family Sunday lunch here recently. They fit us all (14 people) in at short notice and we had a great meal. The roasts were all very well received, in particular 'excellent' roast beef, and the other dishes were interesting and very well made. The staff were great, actually a bit amazing: when we asked for another round... More

Super homemade steak and kidney pud, with large pieces of kidney. Rather small assorted veg though. My desert of bread and butter pud was light and delightful, but the tiramisu was still frozen, and had lost a lot of its flavour. Good wine list. Worth traveling down some long and windy country roads!!

Thank you for your constructive review. We are glad you enjoyed your visit to The Hollist and that your steak and kidney pie and bread and butter pudding ticked all the boxes! Sorry you felt the side order of veg was too small. They are very moorish! The pie is very filling so we try not to overwhelm the dish... More

Today a lunch club eating so service they said may be slow but twas not, really lovely food. However, my friend who has an allergy to dogs/cats/ deer/ferrets!... was rendered speechless by lovely Labradors and other dogs in restaurant/bar... but then dog owners moved to another area. Her speech loss was really sad cos we only meet once or twice... More

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I am sorry that your friend is allergic to dogs and that it somewhat spoiled their lunch at The Hollist. It does state quite clearly on the website that we are a dog friendly pub, as are most of the pubs in the area. A high proportion of our customers... More

My partner and I had a lovely, very filling Sunday roast here on 11/11/13. Washed down with a few local ales! The staff were ALL lovely, very friendly and extremely welcoming. We will be coming back soon. Thank you all.
