Great country pub for lunch or dinner

Our second meal at the Coach and Horses. This time, three of us went here for lunch ... the pub has a lovely country atmosphere. We were greeted by a very docile Golden Retriever who was snoozing in the car park! It was a Wednesday lunchtime in Winter so it was not very busy in the restaurant... read more

This is an old "local" pub with a fantastic restaurant in what used to be the stable block. There was an open fire in each room, two bars and the restaurant. Lovely setting with stone walls and beams above us.

We live about 10 miles from this pub and it was recommended by a friend a couple of years ago. Once we'd been there, we had to keep going back, especially in the summer. It clearly hasn't changed in 50 years or more, and has a charm to it that has been preserved. Food is good, certainly no complaints. The... More

Our Sussex roast beef lunch was perfection today. Served with crunchy rosemary roasties, a fluffy Yorkshire pudding, and complemented by beautifully cooked greens and red cabbage flavoured with star anise, the beef was succulent and full of flavour. Fab salted caramel pannacotta to follow and a gorgeous chewy ginger biscuit to go with my coffee. Clearly someone in the kitchen... More

If you don't want to read the full details of why you should avoid this rude and impolite venue - then stop here. But let me simply state that if enjoying kind and courteous service is part of your general expectations for dining then do not come to this pub. We came here for lunch after a walk - the... More

A lovely pub, with great atmosphere, great beer and great food...what more could you wish for! There's a nice open fire in the bar area in the winter and a beautiful garden area in the summer.

What a find near Ashdown Forest! We went on to this pretty pub on a very cold winter's day and we loved the warm fire and welcome. We brought our small dog with us who definitely approved of being allowed in. I liked the menu as there was plenty of choice without being one of those annoyingly long menus. I... More

We found this pub via a dog friendly pub app and I am so glad we did. Welcoming staff, a lovely atmosphere (even in the bar where dogs are allowed) and really good food. In fact, we saw a sign that the Coach & Horses is a finalist in the Sussex Food & Drink Awards and I am not surprised,... More

Found this pub by default as on route home from Sheffield Park, we decided it to try it out.. Its in the middle of nowhere and not being from the area, we didnt know what to expect! Well it was all what you want in an English Pub!! My father in law was beside himself (he now lives in France... More
