Same food as always; staff really must try to be friendly!

We've been eating here for 20 years, and the food is consistently good, if unchanging (not necessarily a problem). But the staff, always brisk and basic rather than smiling or effusive, have become gradually less forthcoming until nowadays they are usually downright miserable. No rudeness, just an... read more

Ordered a take away on the way home from meeting in the evening. The food only took five minutes to come out which was a little too quick! When we arrived home we were so disappointed. Soggy, chewy deep fried squid, very greasy prawn toast. We had ordered a satay chicken dish but had received a different chicken meal altogether.... More

We visited as cafe rouge was closed and The Orange Square wouldn't allow our 3 year old. The restaurant was deserted, no one in there, we thought it might be closed but no it was open. There was a nice round table in the window and we asked to be seated there but the rather strange waitress said that was... More

Been there many times over the years and the food was usually good but this time standards appeared to have slipped. The starters were obviously reheated and dried out. The duck was not much better. The meal was saved by a good main course. Service was offhand. The restaurantswas pretty quiet for a Friday night and lacking in atmosphere.

I went here a couple of evenings ago, the place was very quiet. We were greeted by a miserable looking lady who when taking us to our table snapped "hurry up" in a sneaky manner, and then handed us the menus snapping "one main course, no starters" to us..... Foul mood, poor service, needless to say we got up and... More

The Canton Chef was just about the only restaurant in Haywards Heath 20 years ago and as other johnny come latelies arrive on the scene and disappear without a trace, the Canton Chef is ever present. The only restaurant in the Broadway which has resisted the arriviste tendency to extend onto the pavement. Paris , Rome or Hong Kong are... More

The food's pretty good..downside is the ambience which isn't quiet inviting. Was pleasantly surprised with the vegetarian options. Reasonably priced and quantity just about sufficient which is the way I like. Will visit again. -DG

Its one of things that all the marketing people say,,, 'have a bad experience and you tell 15 people but have a good one and you only tell three', well Im here to make sure that I tell more than three! This is a consistently high grade establishment, we have been many times before but I have never bothered to... More

Have eaten here and I have never been disappointed, but the take away meal we just shared as a family was awful. It was as if some other restaurant had cooked the meal. The crispy duck was dry and tasteless. The main courses were dry, soggy and almost I edible. Last meal there!
