Great food,lousy service.

Lunchtime on Saturday afternoon 12.30, table for 6. Pub virtually empty, one table of 4 round the corner. Drinks ordered and lunch no starter required. 80minutes for food to arrive!!! Not amusing as waiting with hungry children of 6&8. My 6 yr old asked me if they were catching the fish for my son's... read more

I have been to the Stables twice in the last 10 days one with a party of 8 and then again just 3 of us ,on the first occasion starters were fine long wait then main meal arrived 4 fillet steaks burnt unable to eat them they were charcoaled and were black I complained and they said it would take... The pub we had chosen was full - it was a very wet day so no one could sit outside - and we drove round looking for somewhere else. The Old Stables did not look promising as it is on a busy roundabout next to a Travelodge at Fontwell racecourse, but we were getting desperate. Once inside we were very... More

Great food at pretty good prices. Friendly staff, nothing better than my mate getting a snigger when he asked for a sparkling water, made our week fun. pleasant surroundings too. Can reccomend the fish finger sandwich and the gammon...the tear and share garlic bread is actually a small cottage loaf ...bring a friend

We arrived just before 1pm to find a very empty establishment. The bar staff served us with drinks quickly and took us to a tidy table. I ordered at the bar - to save time - a couple of starters along with the beef and merlot pie and pork belly mains. Starters appeared fairly quickly but there only seemed to... More

The restaurant looked very inviting both from the outside and when we entered. We were given a friendly welcome. We were offered the set menu at £11.95 for two courses. This offer had been changed to Mon-Thurs instead of including the Friday, as was previously the case, the waitress did kindly offer to honour the offer as she had already... More

We enjoyed a very pleasant meal in nice surroundings. The staff were very pleasant. The restaurant is situated in an old building which creates a good atmosphere.

The food is reasonable and the ambiance is pleasant in this low-ceilinged roadside dining pub, but the 'table service' policy means unnecessary delays. No doubt some management consultant thinks table service makes for a superior lah-di-dah fine dining experience, but you only have to read the reviews here to see how customers resent the wait for service at every stage... Went for a spontaneous sunday lunch out today with the family. The roast beef was lovely. The children had the kids pasta and my son had the fish and chips. Very good sized portions and meal, pudding and fruit shoot for £6.95 - kids menu. I thought I would have the sherry trifle for pudding! It was massive. I had... More
