Table service is a recipe for delays

The food is reasonable and the ambiance is pleasant in this low-ceilinged roadside dining pub, but the 'table service' policy means unnecessary delays. No doubt some management consultant thinks table service makes for a superior lah-di-dah fine dining experience, but you only have to read the... read more

We enjoyed a very pleasant meal in nice surroundings. The staff were very pleasant. The restaurant is situated in an old building which creates a good atmosphere.

Went for a spontaneous sunday lunch out today with the family. The roast beef was lovely. The children had the kids pasta and my son had the fish and chips. Very good sized portions and meal, pudding and fruit shoot for £6.95 - kids menu. I thought I would have the sherry trifle for pudding! It was massive. I had... More

Went for lunch and found the whole experience unsatisfactory. The food was not of a good standard. I chose sausages and mash with gravy. The gravy consisted of two blobs of dark salty sauce which did not even attempt to moisten the meal. After I had eaten half, the waitress asked if everything was alright. I asked for more 'gravy'... We've dined here many times over the years. The meals we've had here have always been very good. The staff very polite and friendly, hence the reason we've returned so many times.

We visited before the Fontwell Ladies day racing for lunch to celebrate a birthday. To start with it took 20 minutes for any one to even acknowledge us to get a drink - eventually after asking twice to order food some one took our order.... 1 hour later we are still waiting (bearing in mind it was only sandwich's and... My friend and I stayed at the Travel lodge close by this pub the night before a charity event we took part in. This pub had the perfect mix of a quaint English pub but with a casual feel with those strolling in for a pint from a rugby session to families coming in for a meal. We stocked up... More

Ordered four meals all came out different times. Chips missing with one .. Final dinner arrived once other 3 had finished .. No apology. Had to be worst dinner I have ever seen served. Burnt over cooked cold and half of it missing. No point complaint as the umpteen staff standing around just did not care.

Dropped in for lunch today, we have eaten here many times, and have never had a bad meal. The food is fantastic and very good value for money and the staff are always friendly and helpful!! There is a great choice of beers and wines, all reasonably priced. Today I plumped for chicken liver pate to start, and pork belly... More
