I would say the food was good here, but that isn't an option in the ratings! It's much better than average, but not quite 'very good'. The choice is a bit limited, but the food you get is very tasty.

First impressions not good. Directed from car park via the tradesmen's entrance past kitchen and rubbish. No welcome by the staff. No elderflower or ginger beer. The one dish I had fancied from the website (Jumbo Brixham Scallops) was off. Ordered 3 specials from the board - an asparagus and chicken bake and a cannelloni. Took 40 minutes to arrive... More

Dear Peter - thank you for taking the time to review us. Firstly let me apologise for your less than satisfactory visit . Taking your points individually I am most upset that you were not welcomed properly - that is inexcusable and I shall be dealing with the offender with alacrity. Regarding the entrance to the courtyard from the car... More

Was staying close by and thought we'd chance a meal here. Was not disappointed. Food was good and reasonable and the pub had a warm, friendly feel. We liked it so much that we returned a couple of nights later and had another lovey meal. Even though it was a week night, the pub was busy with lots of people... More

If you want large portions of good British Pub fare this is the place for you. If you are looking for exceptional cooking with flair and finesse it is not the place for you.

We were staying at a local hotel but opted instead to eat here and were not disappointed. The staff were all very friendly and made us very welcome. We loved sitting next to the real fire and had great freshly cooked meals that were served very quickly. Beer was good and a great choice of wines. Highly recommended!

Had early evening meal of fish and chips, very tasty, staff very friendly and helpful. Gave advice on travel and found a local taxi company to take us to music venue outside town.

The staff here really make all the difference; they are extremely helpful, the food was great, and the Anglo-Irish guy takes great personal pride in pouring and serving the best Guiness that I've tasted in a long time. Worth a visit!

This is a nice traditional old pub with beams etc and a pleasant atmosphere. The service was friendly and I was made to feel welcome. There was a reasonable menu from which I chose Scampi and Chips. Everything was very well cooked and I enjoyed my meal. I also enjoyed a glass of the very nice house rose wine. I... More
