Description: Your first time here you might find us a little difficult to find as the pub is down an un-adopted lane in the bottom of a valley, backing on to the Bourne stream. "The Bat" is a traditional country/village pub retaining the charm and atmosphere of what a pub should be. An open fire, panelled walls, nooks and crannies, hops hanging from the old oak beams, cricketing memorabilia and six shining brass hand pumps for ale. Outside there is a covered patio area with grape vines overhead and a large garden with flower borders, a children’s play structure and plenty of seating. There is also a large car park.We offer a good and wholesome selection of light snacks, main meals and a mouth watering selection of homemade puddings and desserts. All our food is cooked and prepared in house by our team.Crossing the generations ,the pub is a meeting place for all and you will be sure of a genuine welcome

This hidden away pub is definitely worth seeking out for a great dining experience in comfortable and friendly surroundings at affordable prices. The meat is sourced from one of the best suppliers in SE England and the skill and imagination of the chef does it full justice (the wood pigeon en croute is probably worthy of recognition by the Michelin... Visited the Bat & Ball with friends and family for a weekend lunch and can't fault any part of the afternoon. Friendly welcome and smiles from the staff, a menu with a 'bit of everything you might fancy' from a pub. A good place for a pint of ale and some decent wines on the list. The place was busy,... It's a little hard to get to thanks to a very rough final road but this medium sized public house has a good selection of both ales and lagers on tap. Dinner starts at 7 with a decent selection of starters and mains; the dessert cabinet is incredibly tempting. Beer prices are higher than expected but the service is friendly... More

A catch up chat with an old friend was made all the more pleasant in this excellent traditional English pub. Tucked away in a valley, down an unmade road this pub is a little difficult to find, but is well worth the search. A generous outside seating area and a warm welcoming bar area with tucked away alcoves, plus the... More

The Bat and Ball is our local. Food menu is generally excellent, with a better variety than most pubs. They have had a couple of 'not so good' food menus (last year) but at the moment they're back to their usual high standards. Friendly staff. Lots of seating inside and out. Thoroughly recommended.

This 'pub' has always been a safe spot for a good meal at a reasonable price with an interesting and varied menu of food that appeared to be mostly cooked fresh. Not any more - the prices have gone up but the quality has gone down considerably and I would no longer want to recommend it for a meal out.... More

We are so sad that you did not enjoy your visit to The Bat and Ball. We do not believe that our menu is anything like a chain pubs menu as we are always commended on how interesting it is and it certainly does not consist of mainly reheatables. We cook all of our dishes here at the Bat and... More

Love this pub! Discovered completely by chance when my car died 10 minutes from it one Sunday. It's hidden away and actually quite hard to find unless you have a guide. Or are told where to go...(like me). Amazing food, lovely staff, fab garden. Would recommend!

We went to this lovely pub today - 4 adults, 2 small children. The lady on the food counter who took the order could be a bit more helpful and friendly but not the end of the world. I ordered sausages/mash/y.pud for the kids but had to order and pay extra for the veg. Adults all had a roast which... More

I don't know how anybody finds this pub, as it is really tucked away down a very bumpy road. We were pleasantly surprised by the menu which had several unusual dishes. I opted for the fragrant sea bass with sweet potato fries which was delicious. My friend had the goat curry, which was tasty, but not at all spicy. For... More
