Your first time here you might find us a little difficult to find as the pub is down an un-adopted lane in the bottom of a valley, backing on to the Bourne stream. "The Bat" is a traditional country/village pub retaining the charm and atmosphere of what a pub should be. An open fire, panelled walls, nooks and crannies, hops hanging from the old oak beams, cricketing memorabilia and six shining brass hand pumps for ale. Outside there is a covered patio area with grape vines overhead and a large garden with flower borders, a children’s play structure and plenty of seating. There is also a large car park.We offer a good and wholesome selection of light snacks, main meals and a mouth watering selection of homemade puddings and desserts. All our food is cooked and prepared in house by our team.Crossing the generations ,the pub is a meeting place for all and you will be sure of a genuine welcome

Classic pub with good beer and good food

We were visiting a relative for whom this is the nearest pub. We took some back paths to walk there which was a wonderful way to get to the pub. There were many excellent beers on tap to sample and there was a nice variety of specials for food. The others had excellent food, but I found mine to... read more

Love this place. Very quaint setting, good beer garden and the atmosphere inside is very welcoming & interesting! Interesting menu changes to keep you interested and good selection of beer. If you haven't already paid them a cost - go for it!

Thank you very much for your lovely review and we are so pleased you managed to find us in all of the footpaths! Good reviews from friends had us in high hopes, and the garden and pub itself are definitely welcoming and pleasant to look at. The first smell that hit us though as we walked inside, was that of urine, and it didn't go away. The gentleman serving us at the bar got flustered when I ordered two drinks and was actually... We are sorry that you did not enjoy your time here at The Bat and Ball. We appreciate your feedback and we will take it all on board. The smell that you mentioned will be looked into, most likely the Gents loos which we are looking into replacing. We are sorry that you found one of our Staff to be... More

I took my parents here for lunch. They wouldn't mind if I said they are knocking on a bit! We chose an esoteric selection of starters, a club sandwich, and some sides which were all served up together, as we asked. This turned out to be enough for a filling lunch. My father said the broad bean hummus was bland,... More

We often go here with visiting friends and family. It is within walking distance providing that our guests are prepared and are capable to walk back up the very steep dark lane. The food is very reliable and consistently good with a menu of many choices backed up by a specials board. We can recommend the fish pie, lambs liver... More

Thank you very much for such a lovely review, we appreciate you taking the time to write about us here on Trip advisor. Just a few points to touch on; you mentioned that we have we taken off Fish and Chips, but we have never had Fish and Chips on the menu Sir, so you must be thinking of somewhere... More

Just had a pleasant evening at the Bat and Ball for my daughters birthday, overall I would say this is a good pub with great food and friendly service, my only gripe is when you have BBQ ribs on the menu please keep it simple, a nice barbecue sticky sauce, a good slaw and decent fries!! Pomegranate is too sweet... More

I've been to the Bat and Ball twice as part of a family gathering to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday (she's lovely!). On both occassions I ordered fish for my main course, last year it was salmon and this year it was swordfish. Both dishes were tasty and the fish was nicely cooked but I did feel a bit let down... We are so sorry that you found our fish portions to be too small. We do think that we are fairly priced for our Fish dishes as we are a Family owned Freehouse not a large chain pub who can benefit from huge discounts from their fish suppliers. We could offer larger portions of Fish, however, the price would then... More

The pub itself is like you'd expect a traditional pub to be. It's small and quaint but has plenty of tables and a good sized outdoor area. The last time i had dinner here i chose a lamb burger and chips and it was sensational. It's actually the first time i'd eaten here and i have to say i would... More

Thank you for your lovely review and we are so pleased that you enjoyed your food and your time here! We do realise that the road can be an issue but unfortunately it is out of our control. Visit Sunday - 5 people @ 1pm, Table pre reserved. Picked this place off Tripadvisor to meet up with some old friends. We all met up and were shown to a nice table.
