Should be better

Idyllic location and should be so much better. Staff seemed grumpy and fed up. This pub is in such a lovely area and all pubs in the area are busy. This pub needs a change and to be smartened up with friendly staff. You pay good money and would have eaten here if my welcome had been better.

Went to the Barley Bow today for lunch with friends. Was able to take my dog with me which was an added bonus. The fire was burning and the atmosphere was lovely. The friendly staff were attentive but not obtrusive.

I like the idea if the pub to watch cricket on the green... but seriously they staff have got to improve their customer service, it could be so much better with friendly staff.

This is one of my favorite pubs to visit. Nice friendly staff in a traditional village pub. Good selection of beers and choice of food. You can sit outside and enjoy the cricket on the village green or stroll down to the river and go for a paddle.

The BM was a late choice for an a deux dinner on 12.2.15. Quiet for a Thursday but nice welcome, real fires and well-kept Real Ales helped keep winter chills at bay. Menu board offered traditional fare c.£13/15 which, as it turned out, was great value. Food was excellent, piping hot and well worth our compliments to the chef. The... More

Old fashioned pub with character, it could have been warmer, despite having open fires, the back room where we sat was too far to benefit from the fire in the main bar. We only had a light lunch, so can't comment on a Sunday roast, but they do make them.

We booked the barley now for Sunday lunch as pubs near by were fully booked and so, after reading the reviews on here, with some trepidation we booked. We were almost excited to see how bad the land lord could be. We were gobsmacked when we received an extremely warm welcome, to the extent we were offered a table by... More

This historic pub and restaurant is spoiled by having the worst landlord in the UK. He has depopulated the pub of locals who refuse to go there. I am not sure why he is tolerated by the owners. It's a classic English pub with a long history, on a cricket green - quintessential English village life - but empty most... More

Took our friends who had just arrived for the weekend to this pub as we wanted to take them to a country pub in a wonderful setting. Unfortunately the elderly woman who I can only presume is the owner is easily the most miserable person I have ever been served by! A sour face, not one smile, not one thank... More

I took a party of ten walkers there last Sunday lunchtime. We had no problems (see other reviews). In fact several of our party said the roasts were the best they had ever had! So I guess it all depends on who is on duty. What is undeniable is the the pub is in a very picturesque setting, opposite the... More
