Nice restaurant, why so quiet?

My wife and I had Dinner at the Chalk Lane Restaurant last night (a Sunday in March 2015). The food was very nice, my Wife had the smoked salmon followed by lamb shank, I had terrine of guinea fowl followed by loin of wild boar and apple pie for pudding. We were both very pleased with our... read more

My husband had booked us a table here well in advance for my birthday. It turns out we were the only people dining in the restaurant that evening, which is a very strange experience. We started with a drink in the lounge. The problem with a place that is so quiet is that it gives you the opportunity to take... More

Had a meal in the restaurant whilst staying for one night. Although it was expensive it was worth it. Could not fault anything and the service was excellent.

For those who don't get to enjoy this dining experience by staying at the hotel, it's worth making a detour into Chalk Lane in Old Epsom where the quality of the dishes is only exceeded by the excellence of the service. It is not a stuffy, pretentious place and you may not be crowded in the restuarant. Ambience could be... More

I didn't pay the bill and didn't pay much attention to the price. But I must say that it was a surprisingly good experience exceeding expectations for this small hotel in the south suburbs of London.

Booked a table on a Friday night and despite it being very quiet, had one of the best meals out of all the restaurants in Epsom. French inspired food and generous portions. Excellent starter of puy lentil salad. Good game mains of rabbit and pigeon. Very good wine list. Lovely mille feuille and generous cheese selection for desert. Excellent service.... More

First time here in a year or so. Excellent food and service, as always. A bit quiet though, as is often the case. Presumably the management make sufficient money from hotel guests and functions, so they don't need to advertise to get more locals in. I imagine it gets pretty rammed when there's racing on at the Downs too. Shame... More

We had another lovely meal here this week. Still great service and good quality food. For what you get I don't think the food is expensive. My husband is never disappointed as a meat eater. As a vegetarian there was a very limited choice this week.. NO main course vegie option at all.

Breakfast was as hearty or as light as you wanted it. Entrees come with a buffet, or you can just do buffet. Dinner options were varied. I loved the scallops and beef dishes. Did not care for the King Prawn, I think the menu changes seasonally, at least, but I've only been here during mid May 2013.

Without a doubt the food is good. The menu is not extensive, but offers a good cross sectional choice. The fine food is complimented by the pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff. We will be returning and look forward to it.
