Last year used the lion for family meal, food was ok, service very good, problem with the very bad smell coming from shall we say so called manager. This problem has now disappeared along with manager. I am pleased to say the red lion has new managers in, and what a lovely couple they are. pub has... read more

Visited on the first Sunday after they reopened following a refurbishment. The place was extremely busy, which I was told had taken the management by surprise and lead to delays in service. However, we had booked, and were shown straight to our table. The wait for our food was not excessive and when our roast dinners arrived we were pleased... More

Called in, at what we would normally think would be a quiet time, but it was very busy. We asked for a table and were informed it would be a half an hour wait, so we said ok and said we would have a drink in the bar. Well trained polite staff, but Hmmmm 45 mins later we were asked... More

Paid a visit to the newly refurbished Red Lion reopened after a fresh lick of new paint. This was a lunch time visit on their first day of reopening. No real teething probs except their coffee machine not arrived yet, solution offered, put the kettle on. The quality of the food was more than satisfactory. Chose the light bite steak... More

Always concerning when you enter somewhere and are the only customers. The food was fresh and the service adequate, but the place lacked any atmosphere. This always used to be a vibrant locals pub and I'm not sure what has happened, but it felt a little like the Marie Celeste.

Went Saturday afternoon after seeing 'award winning pub' on a sign outside. Not sure what the award was for but certainly not the food. The waitress was polite, cheery, genuine and helpful. Food was not up to much. I had cottage pie. No gravy! Which made it really dry. There was loads of potato but hardly any meat. Not much... More

Decided to try the newly introduced carvery which is offered every day and throughout the day. Midweek price is £5.99, higher price on a Sunday. There were 3 roast joints to choose from along with freshly prepared real veggies, couldn't detect any frozen items except the peas. The meats were well cooked and resembled what you would put on your... More

We (6 People) ordered at 7:30PM on a Friday night - there was one other table of 3 visible when we ordered - they had arrived before us. The "new" menu is very disappointing - they are clearly trying to "push" the carvery. We were told that they had no onion rings, and we ribbed the waitress for this -... More

Our 2nd visit while visiting family in the area, both times stopping by for lunch. Large car park. Warmly welcomed. Good menu - lots of options. This visit, we had lasange, gammon & pie of the day (steak & kidney), all very good sized potions, served very hot. With 3 desserts, 1 pint guinness & 2 glasses wine, cam in... More
